Behringer ACX1000 Amp Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This amp meets my needs, whether as a solo performer or in my duo. The whole "made in China" thing is a little dramatic in my opinion. It is Germany technology that counts. I'd replace this amp in a minute if it were lost or stolen. The only downer for me is the weight.
Sound
Amazing lush sound, responds very well to my playing style. I usually only use reverb and echo for guitar, and reverb for vocals - rates quite well against other products. Use it for solo gigs in restaurants, etc.
Features
Probably too many effects, but the ones I use work very well. I did notice the warmth meter doesn't seem to work. I've read that's a common problem and will be contacting the company about that.
Ease of Use
Nothing complicated at all. I think the folks complaining about hiss aren't using their gains right. Plus, this amp isn't for real loud playing. Anything setting at max will naturally give you problems.
Quality
While it seems to be built like a tank, the outer vinyl is fairly thin. I've only had the amp out a few times, and already quite a few rips in fabric. The dials are plastic, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. It might not do too well on the road however.
Value
You cannot beat this amp for value - no way.

"This amp is awesome. If you are a singer songwriter this is the amp for you."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

This amplifier is great! 2 channels one for guitar and one for vocals with a xlr hook up and 48v phantom power. I use a condenser microphone and a fender acoustic electric and it sounds amazing. You do have to take some time to make adjustments to the controls to get the best sound but once you match your gear to this amp the sky is the limit. I can't wait to take this to play my next show. 60 watts is plenty of power for what I do. If you find this amp for sale buy it.
Sound
Sound is great. Rich tone with my acoustic electric.
Features
Loaded with features. Wish you could use 2 different effects at the same time 1 for each channel. Also wish it had a headphone jack.
Ease of Use
Super easy to use.
Quality
Seems built strong except for the built in amp stand
Value
Excellent value for me. I got a steal on this amp for 80$ us
Manufacturer Support
Had not needed to deal with them yet.
The Wow Factor
The wow factor is huge. So much you can do with this amp. I feel like I haven't even come close to its full potential yet.

"Need an amplified acoustic sound - get this amp!!!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I researched many other amps before settling on the Ultracoustic. You can't beat it for the price, features and looks.
Sound
Great sound for acoustics. Just turn up the volume and your acoustic guitar becomes louder, including the harmonics. It is very transparent. I also works well with electric guitars. The only thing keeping this from a 10 is that the warmth control does add some hiss at higher volumes.
Features
The chorus and reverb are great! The warmth control really works. The tone controls have good range. The TWO anti-feedback controls nailed my feedback problems without damping the mid tones. The pick attack control is good, but I find that the speakers have so much punch that I don't need it for my acoustic. However, it does help with my electric guitars.
Quality
Everything works as promised. The amp looks cool too!
Value
You can't beat the two full channels with pick attack, warmth control, double feedback notches, midi, 99 effects, etc.
Manufacturer Support
I have only had one question for Behringer so far. They answered my email promptly. I don't know what others are complaining about.
The Wow Factor
Great amp - nice full acoustic sound, all the bells and whistles, looks terrific, and is not expensive!

"No better value for any where NEAR 3X's THE PRICE"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
At my age (52) this will probably be the last "performance" amp I buy and use along side of my "64 twin reverb", "68 Vox Essix Bass", "Vox Super Beatle" and "sunn 2000s). This acoustic amp more than holds it's own on stage with these amps and if you are a professional performer, the sound person at your gig will more than make up for any very small shortcommings this amps may have.
Sound
I have no idea why so many people complane about this amp. If you expect to get the same performance as an amp that cost 5 times the price, you will be disapointed. If you want a quality, performance worthy amp, this is the ticket. The noise problems are only apparent at the extreme of it's volume constraints. If you are a solo performer who wants to be at "Led Zeplin" or "blue Cheer" volume you probably won't be happy but if you are a folk-rock, blues, singer-songwriter (with a band), classic rock, country or celtic rock performer this is an amp worthy of 3x's the price. Every amp has noise (a lot of noise), whether it is a vintage Fender twin reverb,a state of the art, custom built amp or a $25 "loud for the price" amp. After using this amp in gig situations for a month I have to say that this is the best amp in anything near three times the price that I've ever experinced, just don't expect a $1500 amp for $300
Features
No Complaints
Quality
You can't expect the same quality as an expensive amp but you get WAY More Than YOU HAVE ANY RIGHT TO EXPECT QT THIS PRICE
Value
Way better than you have any right to expect at this price
The Wow Factor
I plan on obtaining this amp as soon as possible

"Save your money and please read this review."

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I'm selling it as soon as it gets fixed and buying either an SWR blondie or and Shenandoah 80.
Sound
The amp sounds good to great at low volumes but take it anywhere past seven and you hear a buzz (like distorted guitar) on chords, the high notes sound too brassy and the feedback controls are useless as are the EQ components. Plus, i'm sorry but this microphone preamp is not First class. It sounds ok to good with reverb and terrible clean and the tube emulator does not add any warmth or difference to the sound and when you have the volume up the feedback is nearly impossible to totally diminish.
Features
the tuner output is the most usefull thing i've used. My standing gold things that you prop it up on fell off after a day. The effects are ok but i'd rather have spent the money on a quality amp for more money without effects.
Quality
its ok for the money, you get what you pay for.
Value
you get what you pay for, too cheap to be good.
Manufacturer Support
I'm calling them tommorow to try and get these problems fixed. Lord I hope they are reasonable, i have a 2 year gold warrenty with them and if things don't get fixed it will be my worst nightmare.
The Wow Factor
it does look kinda cool, but blonde covers rule all.

"Horrible, truly horrible."

Overall: 0.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I was warned about the hiss and lousy quality control before I bought it. I should have listened, but instead I figured i'd give it a go due to the price and features. This amp has been complained about by users since it came out years ago. The fact that Behringer obviously couldn't care less about their customers really hacks me off. If you have a recurring problem with one of your products - fix it, don't continue selling-off your stock in the hope that people will be too stupid or lazy to notice. I've been playing for over 25 years and this is the most shocking example of rubbish I've ever bought new.
Sound
Hisses apallingly when you dare to engage any of the cheap, nasty effects. When 'clean', the sound is dull and without character, especially using the mic channel.
Features
Fantastic array of whistles-and-bells. Everything you could ever want for studio and stage. Loads of in/outputs. Shame none of the features make any difference to the rubbish sound.
Ease of Use
Great interface, especially with the included footswitch.
Quality
Behringer are notorious for their lack of quality control and the unreliability of their products... pot-luck if you get a good one or not. The amp looks fantastic, though. I was really pleased with how it looked when I took it out of the box. Sturdy construction, too.
Value
If this amp worked like you'd expect, I'd say it was amazing value for money.
Manufacturer Support
Sent it back for refund... we'll see...
The Wow Factor
I would't wipe my backside with this amp.

Bought a used Behringer amp acx 1000 I have switched it on for the third time and I get a high pitched whistle for about 1 minute and the signal meter swipes across to full and nothing works. I rang a local group amp tech and he told me to throw it away he said they are unrepairable so for my £250 quid I got less than two hours play out of it. A sound engineer i use a lot also told me they are crap and unrepairable.. Avoid at all costs I am willing to pay to have it fixed but cant find anyone who will even look at it.

"Bad design is not a good investment regardless of the price."

Overall: 1 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
generally noisy
Features
lots of effects, but how many do you need on an acoustic amp?
Quality
Bad design, poor quality, not reliable!
Value
I started my search for an acoustic amp with a Fender Acoustasonic Jr. It sounded okay, but I didn't like the on-off effect of the chorus, so I purchased the ACX-1000. I was originally wowed by the number of effects it had, but just how many effects do you really need on an acoustic amp? The amp worked fine, if somewhat noisily, for almost a year. Then the phantom power circuit started to hum very loudly and the circuit could not be turned off. After getting in touch with Behringer tech support, I took it to the repair service they directed me to. After about 7 weeks the repair tech advised me they were getting my amp replace under warranty. Okay... When the new amp got to me a month later it did the same thing the third time I turned it on. Behringer tech support said the problem could not be repaired, issued a call ticket to ship the dead unit back and shipped me another unit. Turn around on this was about 3 weeks. This one is VERY NOISEY when the master volume is set to anything over 4! I use the amp to play my Gibson Chet Atkins SST through. The guitar sounds GREAT DI-ed through a PA system, but I'm going to cut my losses and trade this thing in on something else. I don't think I'll buy anything else with the Behringer name on it. Bad design is not a good investment no matter how little it costs.
Manufacturer Support
No problem with support, just the amp.
The Wow Factor
No more Behringer for me, thanks...

"Pleasantly Surprised, Very few Negatives"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Very satisfied, I bought the amp used for $175 and I could not touch the sound, construction, or feature set for anything less than 4-5 times the price. Apparently, slave labor equals low retail.
Sound
Overall the sound is clean and crisp. Distortion only occurs if you really bang on the instrument or turn up the input gain too high. At higher volume levels the feedback controls are very useful, but the notch filters could use some width control as they tend to dampen the overall sound. Still, for the money, it's hard to argue. Sounds remarkably similar to a competing amp costing $800.
Features
Beautiful complement of features. Well thought out. The meter is useless but if you're into how your amp looks, it's a nice visual touch.
Ease of Use
Excellent interface, easy to operate, didn't need to consult the manual to do anything, it's all in your face -- as it should be.
Quality
Damned heavy amp, appears to be built like a tank. No rattles.
Value
No way would you get anything even close to this for the money. Take a look at a $300 Marshall amp if you doubt it. This amp's construction reminds me of my old Twin Reverb. It weighs as much as an outboard motor and will probably survive a fall off the back of the truck.
Manufacturer Support
Asked one question via email, got an immediate reply, based on my limited experience I'd have to characterize their support as very responsive and friendly.

Behringer ACX1000 Amp Customer Review

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
I had a Peavey Ecoustic 112 (horrible) and traded it in after a week of frustration for this jem - what a difference in tone - for the idiots below who complained about hiss on channel one, get a decent guitar maybe and your problem will be solved - playing an epiphone or squier acoustic through this thing isn't going to do it justice.
Features
More than enough features, some are usless (like rotary speaker) - the golden amp "kickstands" on the side are useless also, this thing weighs almost 70 pounds and will probably be too much weight for them to handle.

"Had it for 6 months -- best amp ever"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Sound
I bought the ACX1000 6 months ago, and have been using it heavily from the first day. It is beautiful sounding -- smooth and LOUD (120 watts total on 2 channels) and accurate. Voices sound super on condenser mics, and my electric/acoustic comes through powerfully, with a full, detailed sound, without boominess or muddyness.
Features
I set it up in coffee shops, using the attached tilt-back legs, and it always fills the pplace up, even when there are a lot of people talking, coffee machines blowing steam and so forth -- my music cuts through everything, and if I don't turn it down a bit, people at tables can't even talk to one another easily. Heh.
Quality
By the way, anyone who has tried to use a GUITAR AMPLIFIER for voice amplification can tell you that it never sounds good. But the Ultracoustic ACX1000 makes your voice sound as good as it can possibly be. A real acoustic amp, like this one, is what's needed for both acoustic guitars and VOICES. If I had a Chicago-style (i.e. electric) blues band, I'd get an ACX1000 (or two) for the lead vocals and backup singers.
Value
Ok, you get the idea. As someone else said, I went out and played all the acoustic amps before I bought the Behringer. If price didn't matter, this is the one i would have bought. It is louder and sweeter and more robust and more versatile than any of the others. And the price? Well, hey -- I was willing to pay less, since I had no choice.

"Hope you have better luck with it than I did..."

Overall: 1 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I returned it after 1 day.
Sound
This amp does not have the dynamic range needed for electric acoustic guitars. If you get the levels set for light picking, then try to strum a chord, the amp goes into clipping, forcing you to have to reset the levels. Also, every time you adjust the bass, mid, or treble, it changes the volume, so you have to re-set the gain again. The effects are marginal and sound mostly the same, and the amp does not handle bass response well, it's either too bassy or tinney.
Features
This amp has impressive features in theory, it's too bad that in execution it is lacking. This is not the case for most of this manufacturer's products.
Quality
Excellent build quality, typical for Behringer products.
Value
If the execution was as good as it's design theory, it would be a great value. Unfortunately, it misses the mark in actual use.
Manufacturer Support
Did not deal with support people, so I cannot comment here.
The Wow Factor
Again, it's a beautiful looking piece of gear and well made. It just sounds crappy.
