Zoom GFX-707 II Effects Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I will always stay with Zoom products, This one in purticular I am kind of on the edge about upgrading to the GX-5, but if you are considering buying this pedal you will be just as happy as you would with a higher model becuase the GX-5 only has 5 or 10 more effects. I have been satisfied with this pedal for 2 years and will be for much longer!!
Sound
Awesome Sound, it has some of the coolest pitch bending effects and distrorted whas. It also has a Van Halen distortion which has got to be one of the heaviest distortions I have Ever heard. Overall great Sound!
Features
This pedal along with the 74 guitar effects has a built in drum machine and Wah pedal that also controls Pitch,Mode,Volume,Rev,wah, ect. It also has a compartment on the bottom that alows you to make it battery powered for use onstage. Can't Beat the features on this pedal
Quality
The quality only has one issue, I had a Problem with the jacks come lose causing cracking nosies as you turn the cord. THis problem was fixed by some easy sottering them onto the board again, but overall great quality prodect.
Value
This is the best Multi-effects pedal out there for the money. My friend owns a Digitech pedal and hates it becaues of the bad quality ana wants to by mine from me.
Manufacturer Support
I don't know how good the support is becuase I've never had to use it. This is such a good prodect you will not have to use it becuase it will almost never cause you any serious trouble.
The Wow Factor
When I first saw this pedal I was amazed at what it could do. two guys could set up a band a play a full blown song with this pedal.

"On-Stage Perfection"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
i've had zooms and zooms but this one is definitely the best piece as for balance between price and sound. it's a lot easier to work on the settings than the 4040 or the gfx 4 i had. full-scale tones can be achieved even if playing blues or other slo-music or deathmetal, as i do. you just have to be patient and learn what zoom cand do for you. as a note, my CT ibanez+the 707 vams sounds better than a custom S ibanez +the gfx 4.
Features
the expression pedal must be digitally recalibrated from time to time but its no fuss. every piece of the 707 vams can give you what you need, if you know how to turn the buttons :)
Quality
on the road? hehe, i am mostly on the road with my 707 vams. of course it's not made of steel or to be thrown off buildings. so if you take a bit care of it it will last you forever. i usually play wearing heavy boots and no dent i noticed on the case. you'll learn that too..
Value
excellent pricing, even though i bought it in romania for 160 EURO
Manufacturer Support
i duuno, i never ask for support
The Wow Factor
i wanted it since the day it was born

"Good for a Intemediate player"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Yes , i spected to be satisfied for 4 year but since that i need a product with separated L R outputs and in another church i saw one friend with a old RP7 Digitech and it sound better than mine even when he had it conected in MONO, i alwas conected mine in L R with a y cable , i am no loger satisfied
Sound
This pedal is awsome because even when you have to use a Y adapter to enyoy this product full capabilitaies, the modulator and reberv efects are awsome. Itd has a good stereo quallity ,and also if you have a dolby pro logic II system it can sound 5.1.The cons of this product is that you can use only one reberb and one modulator , so if you whant to have wah with chorus you cant. The distortions aren't very smart and they are very difficult to control , so if you are a church music minister like me you will have a hard time with the curch elders because the rocking will be very distoded. The ecualizer sucks because its distords the armonity of the guitar and so it does the 3 acustic guitar emulators. Oveall is good for an beginer to an intemediate guitar player, once you pased that lever consider buying another multi effects pedar. In my case i am consdering buy another. I have it since november 2003 and its give me a great service and helped me bring music to atract young cristians to stay in church , but it comes a time thay you need a change in your music gear to give the lord a better service.
Features
It got many features but the smart media would be better if it had stereo capabilliteies
Quality
It shoud be 24 bits intead of 20bitds
Value
It is a great value for a intemediate guitar player. I payed 214 dolars and i think that i should be paying 150.00 but since i buy it Puerto Rico(a territory of the US in the caribbean) i had it overprice it because US opresory taxes in that colony.
Manufacturer Support
I never had to use it
The Wow Factor
In the time i buy it i realy want it

"Yes for Zoom"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Fits for beginners and a little more advanced. Not a total pro thing, but a good preamp to start with.
Sound
You can get the sound you want to hear, but it's going to take a while fiddling with the controls. I've managed to come up with some spectacular effects which fit my playing perfectly.
Features
Zoom 707II has a nice set of different features, as there are lots of overdrive/distortion simulations and tons of effects. You can also record your playing, but only 6 seconds if you don't have a Flash memory card. There is also a drum machine, but I use it just to give me a rhythm so I can keep my playing together.
Quality
This product is made of plastic and I haven't really kicked it around, but it feels quite strong. Haven't had any sound problems as some have complained.
Value
Definitely suits my needs. I could've paid 20$ more, but I'm glad I didn't have to do that
Manufacturer Support
I haven't had a need to contact Zoom's support.
The Wow Factor
This thing looks relatively small, but it packs quite a punch. The look of this thing is quite deceiving.

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
i love my pedal it goes to all my gigs!
Sound
there are many different effects avaliable and the ability to create your own using the menu's so its very good at create the custom sound you need
Features
there was no accessories with it appart from the ac adapter but the product itself has so many features it doesn't need it, it is easily configurable and the expression pedal can be set to nearly every effect you can think of.
Quality
the pedal is made well and is very reliable, it would be good on the road i have no problems at all with the pedal and the mechanical parts are covered to stop damage.
Value
great pricing nuff said i would pay much more than i bought it for.
Manufacturer Support
this was a great aspect when i bought the pedal the case did not contain the manual after calling the company it took 3 days to get a full new set of instructions. brilliant service A+++
The Wow Factor

"GREAT Product, Broke After 5 Years"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
Great sounding effects, lots of flexibility when creating new patches.
Features
Hard to beat everything this thing offers between built in patches, the ability to build your own, built in drum machine, effects pedal, and the ability to record. Haven't found anything else near this price that does all this.
Quality
I own the GFX707 (previous model), and it's crashed after 5 years (which is why I'm here looking for a new one). Maybe that's to be expected, but it breaks in and out with pure sound, distortion, and muffled sound. Exterior is solid but apparently the electronics aren't so durable.
Value
Great flexibiilty and quality for the price.

"I can't stop practicing with this awesome sounding little mutha..."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Will be upgrading soon to a zoom 8trk studio w/all the good stuff. But for practicing this pedal cant be beat.
Sound
the distortions are the best. the clean sounds sometimes have static which you can clean up, but it takes a long time to set each patch so they all come out the same volume.
Features
I bought it mainly for the drum machine which is not versatile for live performing or recording. The same simple, monotonous, phony sounding beats and no "fill" function or pads. My cheap casio keyboard has a much better drum machine. The guitar effects are awesome but you have to click through each one to get to the one you want. Also there is no bass simulater.
Quality
well constructed and sturdy. roadworthy. sharp looking.
Value
the most quality effects for the price.
Manufacturer Support
product shipped in perfect condition.
The Wow Factor
I still need a drum machine, but it is still worth it just for the preset effects.

"After this pedal is around for a long time...."

Overall: 1.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
About the time I had it for two years, I started looking for a new one - the POD series really caught my attention, but I couldn't stand the fact that they are hand controlled, and not floorboard (it could be, but the floor pedal would make it somewhere around $600, and more than what I want to spend). But, now with the PODxt Live that's solved...
Sound
I'm a mellow/hard rock guitarist, and an effects junkie (you could ask the drummer in my band). This was my first pedal, and a damn good one at that. It has high quality effects for the small price. It has a wide range of distortions, and a lot of effects, and this really cool preprogrammed chinese sounding effect called ORIENT.
Features
The pedal came with a bunch of effects built in. You have everything from hard core distortion to an acoustic simulator, a pretty good wah and other sweet effects. However, it didn't come with a power cable (sold seperately for like $25), and that was a major less for the features, but good for the price.
Quality
The product is made pretty well. However, after three years of use, it is much less reliable. I am about to buy a replacement (Line 6 PODxt LIVE) because now I have a job and I can afford more. At the state mine's in right now, it shorts out A LOT - in the middle of songs, and other things. I wouldn't dare try to use it at a show. One practice I afro-engineered the cables, and had to put a weight on the output cable in order to keep it from shorting out. It also will NOT work with a Fender Stratacoustic, which sucks major.
Value
It is a great price, but don't expect it to last forever with much use.
Manufacturer Support
Never used support...Like to do everything myself...
The Wow Factor
It's not that pretty, and, about the only WOW thing that I've found from it was the built in 6 second looper that they call "sampler." This is genius for getting down timing, soloing, and learning songs.

"Don't waste your money."

Overall: 1 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Stay away from this junk.
Sound
Sound isn't that bad. I liked the acoustic effects and the 12-string was cool. Phaser and Fuzz sucked, really weak. What do I expect for the price, right.
Features
For the price, ok. Drum machine useable, but limited. The 6-second record function of this unit is a nice feature, with slow-down and retain the pitch. Wished I could save longer pieces (see memory problem below).
Quality
Here is where it get's it crap rating. I really wanted to be able to store long pieces (over the 6-second installed memory limit) on the unit for practice as well as for transfering to a PC and saving licks. I tried to use the SMARTMEDIA slot, and it wasn't that "SMART"!! After I tried to format a new memory in the unit, couldn't read it anywhere, including in the unit. I thought I had a faulty memory chip. Returned the memory, and it did the same thing to the new memory. SMARTMEDIA doesn't work!!! Can't find the memory anywhere either (went to Best Buy, Good Guys and Circuit City and none of them carry SMARTMEDIA anymore. They said the cameras aren't using it because its limited to 128M and with the new high pixel rates, they are useless. So this feature is unuseable!! The memory I bought is non-returnable now (because it's the second one I got, and they have none left anyway). So I am stuck with a totally useless memory card that the Zoom destroyed!! Pedal kept losing its setup and had to be readjusted (and I only had the unit for a week).
Value
If you want just an effects pedal, it's OK for the price. If you want to use ALL the features (especially memory) go with ANYTHING else.
Manufacturer Support
After the memory and pedal problems, I called the SAMSONTECH (the US distributor of ZOOM) line and left a message, as well as e-mailing them. Never heard a word from them in 4 days. Went to the Japanese ZOOM website, and buried in their FAQ was a tech release about SMARTMEDIA cards that "may not work". Now they tell me!!! Sent the thing back after 7 days.
The Wow Factor
It's ugly.

"Simply the Best Zoom 707II You Can't Catch."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I'm using it everyday even I do have other guitar effects and processors. Not for now though and I'm trying to multiple several effects together to chellenge Joe Satriani, Steve Vai. John Petrucci, Steve Morse.....I can perform just like them beleive it or not.
Sound
I do owned few guitar effects including the Zoom GFX 8 but this one is simply different then the others. It gives you the long guitar sustaning sound compared to others.
Features
Well so far so good and the sound is better without much accessories except I'm just add up a Chorus Boss Pedal effect. But with the others it wont work that good.
Ease of Use
It is just incredible and producing great sound all the time. Its easy to modify its sound with most of my guitars.
Quality
It is indeed and if the manufacturer and improve it that will great and there are many guitarist using it. I've been using it for couple of years now and I have no problem with it. So far so good.
Value
I guess so and worth buying it anyway.
Manufacturer Support
No even though it is made in China but it superceed others even from the one made in USA, Japan well you name it. I guess I'm just lucky to buy a perfect unit out of many.
The Wow Factor
Its just a guitar effect but coloured lights would be better look and appearence.

"Hmmmm the up's and screw up's of the new 707"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
Okay, theyve made a few improovements in sound like for instance they now havea knob at the back to make sure u can adjust the volume of the effect to the bybass mode. however what they havent done and makes me roll my eyes to the sky is the fact not every effect is the same volume as the last one. the main problem with this is "Van Halen" mdoe sounds excellent but if you change it to "cats" for instance Cats is a hell of alot louder than Van Halen. Zoom REALLY need to sort they're levels out because everything else is great.
Features
what i love about zoom pedals is the tuning, it tells you the note your actually playing which worked really wel for the 707 1 but they kind of screwed it up a little it all gets confusing with swirling boxes especially if you want tune down half a step. The tuning on this isnt so great. However the new pedal is excellent giving modes between volume, distortian, Wah and loads more.
Quality
its okay....tho i wouldnt drop it ud brake it.
Value
not bad
The Wow Factor
very good "sex appeal" as they say

"I have it, and I am very plased."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
If I had I money I would buy Boss. Boss is the best. But Zoom 707II is quite compareable to similar products.
Sound
You can get your sound that way you like it the most. If you have cheaper guitar like I do, you can correct the sound of guitar a lot.
Features
Disstorion is not bed, lot of funtions at all, but I use acoustic effect and heavy metal distortion.
Quality
I is quite reliable. I use it on town gigs. But if you have great amp like marshall(120w) you must set drive a bit lower.
Value
It is nice product. I thought buying 2 single effect and I would pay same price like I bought Zoom707II
Manufacturer Support
Well...I think we have 1 or 2 shops dealing with product support.
