I have owned this kit for over a year now and I will start by saying that Raven Black is an absolutely stunning finish . Gorgeous. Great quality too .This kit certainly is a small kit and is made for tight spaces . Either on stage or in a studio or bedroom . As for the drums themselves. The 13" x 5" snare has a nice crack to it tuned high . The coated Remo UT heads that come with the kit are above average stock heads and sound prettyadded good but choose what you like. The 10" x 5" mounted tom sounds really good but is lacking in punch due to the shallow shell . Aside from the snare , this kit in general is lacking in that area. The 20" x 8" bass drum is hard to tune . I mean trying to get some real thump is next to impossible. Again because of the shallow shell. Now for that 13" x 8" floor tom . A floor tom is supposed to be just that and the fact that they added snare wires and a throw off and are calling this a side snare is laughable . To me , this is the worst drum in the set up. As a shallow floor tom it works with this kit but as a snare it sounds terrible ! Of course sound is subjective and some may like it but I have tuned this drum up down and sideways and I just do not like the snare side of it . Sounds " cheap " to me. Please , get a side snare if you want one and forget this nonsense. I bought this kit and incorporated it with my Roland TD-17KVX for a hybrid set up and overall it works . But this kit begs for mics if you are playing serious rock and roll and mic'd up they sound great . I run mine through a Yamaha MG10XU mixer and a little compression goes a long way . I think this kit is great for an acoustic , easy listening , jazz or " unplugged " type of performance , but without mics forget hard rock , metal etc , etc . Don't get me wrong , this is a cool little kit if space is an issue but is certainly has it's limitations . I also think this kit is a little overpriced but you are paying for the space saving aspect . The same exact kit in a 5 pc set up with full size drums is $50 less than this kit.
