Search around...do the research...compare all the powered mixers out there. When you're done...you'll find none better than this one.
Sound
The Yamaha EMX5000-12 is the perfect powered mixer for gospel group performances. You get plenty of power, plenty of headroom, plenty of inputs and outputs, and the sound I get out of this unit is fantastic. I use twin Yamaha C115V main speakers with this mixer. I can adjust the output power to match the size of venues, and I don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out the controls. I use a Behringer EP2500 amp to kick the sub out signal into a pair of Peavey PV118 Subwoofers. Talk about giving our bass singer some depth. Our group uses AKG D880 mics and a 30ft stage snake with this mixer.
Features
The EMX5000-12 has everything I need to handle a cd player, a cassette player, 4 mics, and a keyboard. Adjusting this mixer to achieve the best balance of volume and tone is a snap.
Quality
I love this powered mixer. You won't go wrong if you decide to purchase one of these for your group. It's been reliable, dependable, and worry-free. Our group travels to churches all over, and we've never been unable to adjust this unit to fit any sized church.
Value
The Yamaha EMX5000-12 is moderately priced, and you get all the bells and whistles for one reasonable investment.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had so much as a hickup from this unit, but I anticipate that Yamaha will stand behind their product.
The Wow Factor
I would buy this powered mixer again in a heartbeat!

"Pricey, but probably the best powered mixer available..."

Besides a few niggles I have with the physical design, I'm totally pleased with the operation of my EMX. I highly recommend these units to anyone!
Sound
Some fool previously posted about how noisy this unit is...he must be doing something wrong! I've owned my EMX for over a year now, using it for acoustic gigs and as the muscle for my DJ service. I find the EMX very quiet for a powered mixer...more like a separate mixer/amp combo. Even when I'm pumping the latest hits at high volume, the EMX sounds clean.
Features
I don't think there's much else you could ask of a powered mixer. It's got clean sound, usable EQ, nice FX and plenty of power. There are only 2 things I'd like to see on future models: 1) Channel inserts routed right after the input preamps, not post-EQ. This is being picky, but I think inserts work better that way, so that changes to the EQ don't effect whatever you might have inserted (i.e. a compressor). 2) I'd easily trade bridged mode on the power amps for the 9-band graphic to be moved just in front of the amps. As it is now, the 9-band is hard-wired to the stereo/mono main buses. It would be nice to be able to use the built-in graphic and amps for monitors and send the main signal to a separate EQ and amps when higher-power mains are needed.
Quality
Feels solid and well-built. Not cheap-feeling like many powered mixers. FX processors have a nice, clean sound.
Value
These are not the cheapest powered mixers on the market. They're not really aiming for great bang-for-the-buck. These units are designed for musicians who are willing to spend a little more on something that will last a long time, and give solid service the whole time.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had to use it, and I don't expect to. Yamaha makes great, solid gear that will last a long time.
The Wow Factor
I proudly tote my EMX around. I keep finding situations where I wish I had the larger model, but I really like the one I have. I bought a nice flight-style case for it on eBay that works great...I highly recommend this for anyone. I actually paid $79 plus shipping, but now I see the same ones for $49. Well worth it, either way...

Once again, the Yamaha is best in it's price range----have to spend twice as much for a powered mixer to do better or invest in separate components.
Sound
The sound of the unit is very neutral---good solid bass---clean highs--does not shriek. Use the unit as a second system for small venues. Competes very well with separate components. Found only one mixer better but at twice the price.
Features
Like the two aux outs---Sub out is very nice with variable filter. Wish all out and ins in patch bay were balanced TRS.
Quality
Well built---wish it had a cover or vinal case for transportation.
Value
Best in the market in it's price range---need to spend twice as muc for an EV to get better.
Manufacturer Support
Yamaha is very willing to talk and to give support
The Wow Factor
Excellent looking aesthehtically---easy to use---great for a econd system for small to medium venues.

"The most advanced powered mixer on the market"

This mixer more than fulfills my needs for now and for the foreseeable future. Unlike most powered mixers, the Yamaha 500-12 has "room to grow"; you can add external efx, insert compressors or pitch correction into individual channels, use it in stereo and add a separate mono monitor amp, use its mono out to add a subwoofer and completely devastate the place!
Sound
This is a very clean sounding mixer. I haven't used it extensively yet, but so far, the mic preamps sound neutral, the efx sound great, and the power amps can get really loud.
Features
One of the main reasons I chose the Yamaha EMX 5000-12 over the Mackie 808S (and over the Yamaha 88S) is because of its faders--whenever I have to do even a little mic level changing during a show, I much prefer working with faders to working with the tiny "knobs" on most powered mixers. The Mackie is a great mixer, which I've used on many occasions, but the Yamaha 5000-12 has about the same specs and has the same stereo or mains + monitors flexibility, but with many more "pro-level" features, such as PFL monitoring, 2 independent efx (so you could have delay on guitars and reverb on vocals, for example), 2 aux sends (two separate monitor mixes, or mons + external efx), 48v phantom (not 15v, like the Mackie) and a pretty complete patch bay.
Quality
The unit seems to be very well constructed, and my experience with Yamaha and the experience of some pro A-V people I talked to who use Yamaha a lot, is that their stuff can take it.
Value
I think it's a great value.
Manufacturer Support
I'll say 9 here, only because I don't know. But about 10 or more years back, I needed a Yamaha tape deck repaired, and their service center in Garden Grove gave me excellent service.
The Wow Factor
This is kind of a silly question regarding a powered mixer.

"Sound great but noisy."
Everything is work great in this mixer exception of the hiss and hum noise from the build in effects and line input. I use monster cable for all of my instrument and microphone. If Yamaha fix the noise problem then I would great this mixer a 9 because it is a very versitale mixer.
Sound
Sound is ok but not the great. I also have a matching pair of the yamaha club series iv speakers. It helps to improve the sound.
Features
This mixer has a lot of headroom. Many features included a subwoofer output. Build-in effect.
Quality
Well made but i can't fit in a regular mixer case. The buttom and knob can be improve in the next version. This mixer made in china...so what can you expect from it?
THis mixer is very noisy especially the effect. It has a lot of hiss and hum noise.
Value
Bang for the buck.
Manufacturer Support
Yamaha has the best support. Online and phone support are great. Keep up the good work...yamaha.
The Wow Factor
If it can fit in a regualar case.
