"Yamaha does it again."
Once again, Yamaha has managed to outdo themselves without completely giving the farm away. This hot rod has 24, count them 24 tracks with 8 subtracks (by the way, if you can't do it in 8 takes, go home and practice some more.), 24 bit AD/DA conversion, 32 bit internal processing, plenty of comps, effects, gates, pitch correction, blah,blah,blah... The list goes on. For the money, it's a real good box!! Congrats Yamaha!!
Sound
Great AD/DA converters. Better than the Roland counterpart, yet at a much friendlier price. The sound is great...I'll bet George Martin wish he had one of these puppies when he and Goeff recorded Abbey Road!! Great comps. Great Gates. Awesome effects processors.
Features
Yamaha is known for doing what they do well. However, a VGA screen output and 24 bit recording would be awesome!! Nowadays,I don't think it's beyond their reach to produce such a machine for not too much more cost.
Ease of Use
Read the manual and it's easy! Don't read the manual and you make it hard to use. It's that simple. The machine is very user friendly with the manual.
Quality
A 10! Enough said...
Value
Compared to other machines in it's class, this is a winner! You get the most important features needed to produce a great, professional recording at a reasonably affordable price. Works for me!
Manufacturer Support
Have not had the need to use support yet.
The Wow Factor
I want it!! I have it!!

"great recorder, for songsters,or bands, amazing value for anyone who loves recording to a pro level."
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I would hope to get at least 5 years or more out of this recorder.I don;t follow trends. This does all i need and could ever want from a home studio, and it would take some beating.
Sound
amazing warmth when useing type two sound settings, still nice on the ears in type one mode, lots of weight and more definition than you could dream of from a studio in a box.could'nt be happier.
Ease of Use
it took me a while to get used to working with a digital mixer, maybe about 2 months, most of my time spent recording has been on analog tape.and outboard gear.i'm comfortable with it now and getting good results from the work I put in.I use a trad classic old sckool vibe for my music and i can get that.
Quality
great,no problems,os is stable, still looks and works as good as new after six months of intense daily use
Value
its underpriced for what you get.the fx are pro the comps and gates do a better than good job,and if you put the time in,you get great recordings.I've tried others and they don't come close.
Manufacturer Support
I've just downloaded os update from yamahasynth .com,worked first time.thats the only time i've used them.
The Wow Factor
If i was going for looks.i would of gone for something else,I was goin to get a 4416 a still very sexie beast.but for practical reasons i went for the 2400.its navigation is good and the screen is a nice sise,I've warmed to it...theres no machine in its class that i would swap for it.

"Better than 4416, but not so sexy"
I hope to use the yamaha for the next 5-8 years
Sound
Very clean.... almost too clean. Reproduces faithfully what the Micro's are hearing.
Features
USB connection is a great feature.
EQ's and effects are good.
But where is the scrub function??
Ease of Use
This is the 1st time I've used a harddisk recorder. Took about 2 weeks get used to the functions I need and I'm still learning. Was surprised generally how logical it was to use.
Quality
Makes a good impression... solid.
Value
This product is worth every cent
Manufacturer Support
Just used the os update. OK
The Wow Factor
Shame that Yamaha didn't carry over the second screen idea from the 4416.... there's enough room for it on the 2400. It's definately better than the 4416 but not so sexy.

"Quality and Flexibility"
Verified Customer

Well done. Yamaha quality. Great flexibility. Excellent sound. Does what it should.
Sound
The sounds is quite good. Perhaps the most important thing about multi track recorders regarding sound is the quality of the preamps. These preamps are quite good. The rest of the sound chair is very fine.
Features
There are good effects and contols. The unit provides very good flexibility for routing the signal path. It allows multiple choices for many of the features. The one thing it should have is a separte gate function, instead of making this an effect.
Ease of Use
Good but not great. It relies on multiple layered menues for many functions. This allows flexibility but makes the learing process more complex. The basics are pretty easy. More advanced features require study and practice.
Quality
High quality with one exception. Like all of these I have seen, the screen is simply plastic. They really should make these of mineral crystal to prevent scratching.
Value
Very good value to me. I should not that if one does not need the extra features and 24 bit recording, the Tascam DP02 (which I also have) would be quite sufficient.
Manufacturer Support
I had one question on this and it took multiple emails and a call to get a response.
The Wow Factor
Of all the multi track recorders, this seems to be the queen - the best one.

Yamaha AW2400 Customer Review
Very good product. I will be able to use it for a long time before I reach the limits of what this machine can do. Combined with a PC and software like Logic or Cubase or ProTools it becomes even more powerful than on its own. Useful for both Studio Recording and Live Recording applications.
Sound
It has very good sound, at least to the extent that it reproduces very closely what it hears from the microphones or inputs
Features
I would like to see a ring around the jog wheel to allow me to control the speed of fastforward/rewind in a song.
I would also like to see the ability to enter time indexes with the keypad rather than just bar/beats/
Quality
Very well made. It has not crashed yet. It has it's own backup functions that need nothing more than a cd and it backs it up in AW2400 native format or in AW2816 format which is compatibe with other AW boards.
Value
Somewhat cheaper than other comperable products from Roland/Tascam etc.
Manufacturer Support
No 1-800 number for tech support
Lacking FAQs online, lacking more detailed/technical manuals for those who need them
The Wow Factor
Portable setup, easier to transport around than a laptop+interfaces, more robust, doesn't crash.
