I got my mandolin about a week or so ago and have been meaning of making a review. Now this is my first instrument I've had in over a decade. So I got this with that in mind. The mandolin it's self is amazing I love the feel of it and the sound. If I was rating the mandolin alone it would be 5 stars across the board. However this is a bundle and that is where some of my issues come from. It came with a few things a gig bag, a strap, I think I was told it's pitch pipes as a tuner, picks, and an instruction book. Now the gig bag I like it's pretty nice and what I expected. The strap is nylon and is alright with the price point I think it makes sense. As a new instrument user the pitch pipes just really threw me off and I ended up getting a tuner that made more sense to me to tune the mandolin. The picks are alright I don't have any issues with them as a new person. I would also like to include with some excellent support from zZounds support staff I found out the strings are light gauge which I knew helped with new players. The instruction book was pretty garbage and non existent. It didn't include any actual instructions just some songs and notes without any explanation on how to read it. It also was just a small pocket book.
Sound
I really enjoy the sound of it and it sounds like it should.
Features
I really like the fact that it has a truss rod, a solid top and a solid body.
Ease of Use
I used a Snark tuner after attaching the bridge it took me a few hours to get it all tuned up. Which is the first time I have ever tuned an instrument and it wasn't a bad experience.
Quality
I think it is made very well and I like the feel of it. In the aspect of lasting I think it could last a nice long time it is made very well and has a good healthy heft to it.
Value
I would say it would be worth it more by itself than as a bundle. I do have slight regrets about not going to the ibanez mandolin and just purchasing a gig bag and strap.
