Immediate retro-60's-vibe throwing these on my P-Bass with Geezer Butler EMGs. Think the Beatles "Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite" tone and then nail it. You want Jamerson? Done. Carol Kaye? You betcha. Very smooth playing and fretting surface area without any break in time. Very balanced feeling tension as well. I did not see myself loving the slightly lighter gauges in this set but holy smokes, it is literally making this bass more fun to play. Flats can sometimes kill that hi-mid range snap, but these are still surprisingly bright enough and contribute to that "woody" tone without getting murky when rolling off the tone knob. And, duh, these are not just a one trick pony for "oldies." Maybe not great for down-tuned metal, but I am definitely getting some mileage out of them for hardcore punk and psych rock. They're pricey, premium stuff is. Be happy with a string purchase like me. I didn't see myself biting the bullet and "investing" but totally worth it. Flats last forever and age well. I've used the other brands and these are just a perfect fit for me. Pull the trigger on these before I buy all of them.
