I'm in it for the long haul. I got this to do remote recordings of my jazz trio, and some studio mixdowns of analog 4-track recordings, and am so impressed by the performance of this unit. I much prefer it over DAT or MD for mixing or doing live-to-2-track.
Sound
With the right tapes (TDK SA and SA-X, for example), it sounds heavenly!! TDK's technical support told me it's calibrated to TDK tapes and I believe it wholeheartedly.
Features
I would prefer an external bias adjustment. Even though it's a 2-head deck, that still would have been useful.
Quality
Built like a tank. . . .which is why I bought it in the first place.
Value
It's only a tiny bit pricey. I feel it's well worth it because of the sound and build quality. An external bias adjustment would've given it a 10 in my view.
Manufacturer Support
They eventually are able to talk with you (either by calling you back or after you wait on the phone a few minutes.) And their info. is GREAT. A guy named Jimmy at Tascam is the product specialist, and he knows his stuff. You can tell he's been around the business and these analog products for awhile.

Musical Style:
