I was looking for a great, wood, semi-dry sounding snare and I have found it with the Tama SLP G Bubinga Snare. First off, the looks of it is a thing of beauty. The black nickel hardware sets off the dark stained wood very nicely. The snare is striking to look at. Second, the sound is powerful, not overbearing and very versatile. My band plays a lot of styles from rock to blues to punk and it spoke strongly through it all. I replaced my heads with Evans Dry and snare side head, as I do with any new snare. Tuning was quite easy and with alittle Moongel, I was rocking it. This snare is quite heavy and you can tell it's made well. It's designed nicely and resembles the Starclassic series in a lot of ways. It's truly a great snare drum and I can see this being my main snare for a long time to come. It may be a tad dry for some, but after you hit it once and any reservations go out the window. This thing is a work of art! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This is definitely an amazing snare 110%, I was debating between this and the SLP walnut.. They both sounded amazing but I couldn't take my eyes off this one! The finish is gorgeous. It is a very versatile drum, you can get a good fat mid tuned sound and of course an amazing crack when you tune it up, never loosing its tone. Responds great to ghost notes. So far ive had a Remo coated ambassador and a powerstroke 3 on it and they both sound great, you'll definitely need a moon gel or two depending on where you're playing. I don't regret this snare one bit, although I still think I may purchase the SLP walnut as well. Be sure to choose the free bag option!

Been drumming for 21 years, own some pretty bad ass snares and this has become my favorite so far. For a while now Ive been rotating between a Pork Pie pantina brass, a Mapex Saturn series mapel/walnut and a Tama brushed steel snare but this Bubinga takes the cake by far. It can be phat and punchy, soft and dull, or crack and pop like a mofo. Ive had a remo ambassador and a power stroke 3 on there so far, both sounds fantastic. Plus it looks absolutely incredible. You won't regret this snare one bit!

Great drum so far. I purchased this drum at a slight discount because it was described as "blemished" but wasn't clear what was meant by blemished. Did "blemish" refere to surface scaring and dents or was it mechanical?.
