This Iron Cobra 900 single bass pedal is an upgrade from my Iron Cobra 600 single pedal. And it's definitely an upgrade. The good:1) The structure of the 900 is tighter, thicker, and wider--thus more stable--than that of the 600. Plus, there's an attached drum key.2) The Swivel Spring Tight (US.PAT.NO.9236038) is especially brilliant, filling the lone bald spot in the 600's many (similar) adjustments.3) The hard plastic case is pretty cool. The bad:1) The Power-Strike beater head's flat felt striking surface absorbs so much energy that it's sluggish, despite the adjustable head angle. In comparison, the rounded felt striking surface of my 600's dual beater is more responsive, and the plastic side is even more responsive yet. Using the plastic side of the 600's dual beater with the 900 is amazingly responsive (I hope Tama makes a "Whatever"-Strike beater head with the striking surface rounded and made from the same plastic as the dual-beater's plastic side; I think it would be amazing). The silly:1) The Cobra Coil (US. PAT.NO.7408104) seems like a good idea but the laws of physics disagree. Sure, it helps the footboard to rebound but, because of friction and gravity, it takes slightly more effort to depress the footboard than the attendant rebound. Sadly, a gimmick.Overall:This is a super solid and stable single pedal with seemingly endless adjustments at an amazing price. As highly recommended as possible.
