Excellent Quality Precision Bass for half as much as it's Mexican brother . . .
Sound
I am a huge fan of the Duncan Designed Pickup line and have them installed in several of my guitars and basses. This particular pickup sounds fantastic and I would never change it unless it malfunctioned.Very clear, punchy and articulate. The Maple neck, brass saddles and basswood body make for an incredibly resonant bass! I was a little worried about the lack of a tone knob but that changed as soon as I plugged it in. As far as the sound is concerned, this axe is A+
Features
This may sound a little counter intuitive, but the best feature, is a lack of features. I spend far too much time noodling around with dialing in the "perfect" tone. So, it's refreshing to have such a simple, no frills, rock bass!
Ease of Use
Unfortunately, I had minor problems in the playability department. My bass required a full setup. Which I would have performed regardless because I enjoy it and like to adjust things to preference. Too much neck relief. Nut slots too shallow. Pickup heights were off. Intonation off. The usual. All easily rectified in less than an hour if you know what you're doing. I like my action fairly low at 1.5mm and I couldn't find a buzzing/high fret anywhere. . . hallelujah!
Quality
A+ Fender/Squier instruments generally last forever. All high quality components on this one. High Mass bridge, with brass saddles. The tuners feel excellent and stable. Fit was great- neck and body were perfectly paired. Finish- B+ due to the fact that there is several spots that weren't fully buffed out after paint. I will give them the benefit of the doubt though, because the color white is a cruel mistress when it comes to buffing because it's incredibly difficult to see the spots you have already buffed. The block inlays were done flawlessly and I could not find the tell tale signs of any filler to cover up imperfections around the edges at all!!!! Awesome!
Value
Value is incredible!! The new Squier's are without a doubt the best bang for your buck available. I am a Fender snob and immediately ended up preferring this Squier over them. That says a lot!
Manufacturer Support
I have not dealt with Fender/Squier customer service.
The Wow Factor
Maple Neck w/ Pearl Block Inlays is very unique. A nice throwback to the seventies Jazz models. After a full setup, you will be shocked at how amazing this precision plays!

I have been playing and collecting basses over 30 years ,but at the moment, I just have 2. My main bass is the Geddy Lee Sign. Jazz bass. Owned a Japanese made one in 2002, now they are made in Mexico, for those who didn't know. Still a killer Bass. I got that from zZounds about 3 months ago, but this review is about my latest bass, The Chris Aiken Sign. p- bass by Squire. I am not a P-bass Type , but this one was so attractive I had to have it !! It has the 1 5/8" at the nut neck, so not too wide for most Jazz bass lovers like myself. This bass has a very quality Maple all gloss neck ( OLD SCHOOL ) w/ the white binding and pearloid blocks. 70s Screaming !!! With the olympic white body and the Steve Harris like mirrored pick guard , this bass has Class !!!! Indonesian made , not Chinese and very good quality, surprising quality for the price ! How does the Duncan Designed PU sound ? Killer !! Very good growling P-Bass sound. Fender Tone all day ! If you get one as good as I did , you can't go wrong with this one !

Squier continues to amaze for a $300 instrument. Made my typical upgrades: hi-mass bridge, stainless flatwounds, Warmoth tortoise pickguard (they can fabricate with one hole for volume only). Fun to play. Neck block inlay looks great. Volume only, but tone can be contoured from the amp settings. Lightweight and balanced. Why spend $800 for a Dee Dee Ramone Olympic White P Bass? This one has character!!!

"Fender P Bass"

The first one we got had a warped neck but ZZounds took it right back and replaced it with a better one. I do have to admit that both had cracked pickguards but I just changed that myself. This is the P bass with they mirror plexiglass pickguard. I'm sure they would have replaced that, too, I just decided to do it myself. This is the second guitar I've bought from Zzounds, couldn't be happier with both purcahses.
