At the lower end of the price spectrum, the Shure stands alone for low cost and great performance. You can get lower priced "junk" and loose allot of performance and save only a little scratch or go for the high end units and pay more than twice the price. I wish it was cheaper (price only) but it costs what it costs and zzounds is great for getting it to you quickly. I have bought lots of gear from zzounds. Best price and always ships the same or next day. I get the goods quickly from them.
Sound
Have 2 wireless instrument mics from Shure. The other is the older (but still sold) analog one. The units work great. Easy to set up. The Beta98 cartridge is excellent for instruments.
Features
New digital gain pot is very handy and is a nice upgrade from the 10db pad on the older unit.
Ease of Use
Very easy to set up. No fuss, no muss.
Quality
This unit may not hold up as well as some of the higher end units but at half the price of the higher end units I guess that you get what you pay for in some respects. So far, the older one has been in weekly service for about 4 or 5 years and is holding up fine.
Value
The only gripe I have with the value here is the overall cost. While the volume of instrument mics might be much lower than vocal mics I think that Shure should make an instrument mic based upon the SM57 cartridge. This would lower the cost a great deal from the Beta98 based mic. The cost might then be on parity with the vocal mics.
Manufacturer Support
The older unit had a problem with the mic cable and Shure instantly replaced it under warranty. Have not had any non-warranty issues. Shure is a good company to deal with in general so I expect few problems.
The Wow Factor
The sex appeal, for a performer, is very high. Nothing like a wireless for a trumpet, sax, or trombone! Makes them feel cool! Great gift for any horn player in a band!

"Good, but not really wireless"

Connecting the microphone to the battery belt pack is a long cord. Sure looks like a wire to me! And that wire is literally and figuratively a drag. During performances, it has inadvertently caught on various items. That being said, it is a reliable system. It sounds good. I just wish Shure would come out with a version that does not require a belt pack.
