I would buy this system again. I only wish they would give the belt pack a shorter cord, and provide a better and easier to use tie clip.
Sound
Obviously this microphone is designed for speech, and it does a very good job. The microphone included is the ME2-2. It is a lower quality microphone than the more expensive Sennheiser systems, but for $200.00 it is very good. The transmitter pack has an adjustment for sensitivity that helps to regulate ambient noise. I use this microphone for preaching, and occasionally, I can hear a person cough or sneeze if they are sitting within the first 2 or 3 rows of the congregation. I consider the speech quality to be very good on the recordings.
Features
I gave this a 9 because it has all the features that I need right now, but not all that I might need later. There are only 4 frequencies to choose from. Do your homework and check to make sure you don't have a major TV station in your area broadcasting on one of them. The receiver has an adjustable gain knob that regulates the volume going into your mixer or audio interface.
Ease of Use
This unit is very easy to use. It took me maybe 10 minutes of adjusting to regulate the sensitivity of the microphone and adjust the gain. Plug it in, make a few adjustments, and you're ready to go.
Quality
The receiver is a metal box that is very sturdy. The antennas seem to be sturdy (I am not afraid of knocking them off or something). The belt pack is good except that the microphone cable is almost 6 feet long. I will never understand who they design these things for. Where is the person whose pocket is 6 feet from his chest. There is just a lot of spare cable to either wrap around the belt pack, or stuff in your pocket. Also, the tie clip provided is not easy to use. You can order the Sennheiser MKE2 tie clip that works much better. With all that said, those are minor inconveniences. The quality of the unit is excellent.
Value
The system is $200.00. In wireless microphone systems they say that you get what you pay for. I believe this system is very good. I would assume that if you want to use this in a setup with a lot of ambient noise, you need to go with a Cardioid microphone rather than an omni directional. But for me as a preacher recording sermons, it is great. From the systems I have used, this one is the best deal for $200.00
Manufacturer Support
I called Sennheiser about ordering a new tie clip. They are very helpful. The representative even went and rummaged through some inventory so he could look at the exact part I was talking to him about. He even sent me some freebies in the mail. You can't beat that.
The Wow Factor
The box is compact and attractive next to the other sound equipment. Even from a distance, you can see the lights that need to be on of off. I think it is very well designed.
