With a Duncan humbucker for the bridge pickup, a single-coil for the neck, and a solid mahogany body, the Schecter Solo Special is a no-frills tone machine.

"Excellent Value for the price"

Overall GREAT value for the price. With a good setup it's easy and comfortable to play. Love the tonal variety you can get with the coil taps. The stock pickups are not awesome but definitely serviceable. Personally, I like the P-100 in the neck for clean and mildly overdriven "bluesy/jazzy" lead tones and probably won't replace it. Didn't like the bridge pickup as much so I replaced it with a Duncan Distortion. When I still had the stock bridge pickup, I ended up using the middle position on the three-way switch most of the time and really liked what I could get out of that. Seems very well constructed and balanced and all of the hardware is solid. Overall, a very nice guitar for a variety of rock styles that you can get without breaking the bank...comes with a lot of tonal options to play with, and, based on my experience adding the Duncan Distortion, responds well to pickup upgrades! Had a good experience with Schecter support: left a message asking about pickup replacement and they called me back in about an hour or so and were very helpful.

Sound
This is one fine guitar for the cost. A set neck that comes out-of-the-box playble. I got a chance to play one in San Antonio and it was very nice. Great tone and quality built and priced to amaze the compotition. When I'm lucky enough to purchase one, the only thing I would change would be the p-100 to a Lollar or maybe Grosh. I own a '58 LP Jr. and this thing blow it out of the water, even with the p-100.

Will see when I purchase, which I will be doing soon.
