Sterling by Music Man Albert Lee HH Electric Guitar

This Sterling Albert Lee model's quality gives its Music Man big sibling a run for its money. A pair of humbuckers contribute to this guitar's creamy tone.

This guitar is amazing, especially when considering its price tag. The neck feels as good or better than what you find on a $1k+ Fender Stratocaster (or Telecaster). Mine arrived with perfectly filed fret edges and a neck profile to die for- it’s a little chunky, and perfectly contours to my hand. It has nice tall frets too. There is also a really nice, smooth satin finish on the neck. This model truly feels like a much more expensive guitar. It has great resonance when played unplugged, so I would imagine it would be absolutely smoking with a set of DiMarzios or Fralins (or whatever you prefer) in it. The stock pickups aren’t bad at all though. And setup was a breeze, with a wheel at the base of the neck that’s accessible from the top. So no removing strings or popping the neck off to do truss rod adjustments on this one. The stock tuners aren’t fancy, but they stay in tune great. The weight is nice too. And though it’s kind of a weird looking guitar, it is extremely comfortable and ergonomic to play. If you’re wanting a solid body guitar with a bolt on neck, and your budget is $1k or less, I would HIGHLY recommend this one (assuming your style is more in the realm of country, blues, classic rock, etc... this is no metal machine). It’s just a wonderful little axe, and I can’t say enough good things about it. If you do get one, I also highly recommend putting several coats of fret board conditioner on it. Mine was kind of dry and pale looking when I first got it, but after several applications of the stuff, it’s now a beautiful dark brown color. By the way, the Daphne blue/tortoiseshell pickguard combo is gorgeous in person. Photos don’t do it justice at all.

I really wanted to like this guitar. The overall feel and sound is great. But the quality control sucks. I've received two Albert Lee models from zZounds and the second one was worse than the last one. First off, one of the two anchors that hold the bridge down split through the wood on both guitars. The fret edges are super sharp. The second guitar I received came with black scratch marks and chip/crack in the paint, about the size of a quarter. Also one of the four screws on the jack plate is missing. Aside from that, the neck profile and finish is very comfortable. Pickups sound great, clean or overdriven. The weight is pretty light. It also stayed in tune surprisingly well with the tremolo. It has the potential to be a good guitar, if only the manufacture inspected their instruments.
