"An underrated gem!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This gem is hugely underrated! I guess it is the Roland's fault - this keyboard receives very little marketing and media attention. That's why I wrote this short review in the first place. Also do not confuse this RS series with the RS 9 and 5 that have pretty bad reputation. RS 70/50 are a 110% improvement and cannot be compared to earlier RS keyboards! It has powerful and modern sounds, great and EASY sequencer, intuitive and great controls - all that for a good price. It is definitely better than TritonLE in many ways!
Sound
The sounds are great, especially those RS ones. Piano, strings, synths... they are all fantastic! Many of them are the latest sounds being used in todays rock/jazz/rap/techno music. Patches that sound a bit boring can easily be edited with the 5 knobs, effects or with RS PC/Mac editor.
Features
Loop sequencer is absolutely great. Not just it is easy to record/edit, it is also powerful enough to save your ideas and demos! Then you can save it to the disk as a SMF or pattern/song or in the memory. There are a bunch of Arpeggio/chords/patterns templates and are very good and useful, although I prefer to make my own. USB, Disk drive, 64 poly, 64mb sounds... Great!
Quality
The keyboard is made to last. It's not all-metal case, but the plastic parts are sturdy and have a great feel on the hand. Cheapy? No way! Keyboard action is also great. Knobs are rubbery (yes!). RS70 would be good on the road and I could depend on it. Heck, it is made for players!
Value
Price is ok.
Manufacturer Support
Contrary to the popular "tradition" that Roland support sucks, my experience was different. I emailed Roland East European two times and got the response within 2 days. I also emailed EDIROL and got the response in 24h. I did post the question in the FAQ section and also got the response within 24 hours. I never dealt with the Roland warranty issues and hopefully never will.
The Wow Factor
Looks very slick and stylish, especially the metal part.

"Very good workstaion for the price."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
the samples are excellent, mostly, but as far as synthesis, it could be mour powerful (just two tones per patch and just ONE global effect is poooooor...).
Features
Love the equencer - The easiest, but not the most powerful (works fine, though). Works like a simplified groovebox. Easy to navigate through sounds, and menus. And nice real time modifiers. Nice arpegiattor, too.
Quality
Nicely constructed. Hate that joystick thingy from Roland, but ALL their keyboards have that. I think it will survive a few gigs (eh ehe)...
Value
It could be a little less expensive. But I think is a very good workstation for the price. Maybe, I would try out a MOTIF, nowadays... A put some more money.

The Wow Factor
Not the "beautifullest", but very handy, with all the features I need for live and Studio purposes. Still not totally happy about the synthsis archtecture, though.
