This mic works on almost all smartphones, tablets and some cameras. My friends and I tested it on a Galaxy of products, iPads & iPhpnes, a Fire 7 HD tablet and an HD video camera, and it recorded sound about the same as without a mic, except that it focused more on the direction it pointed to and not as much sound from behind the mic. The big furry windscreen is a useful whimsical tool that works well to dissipate wind moving near the mic. Plug any earbuds or headphones into the mic and you can hear what's recording.
Sound
The sound quality depends on what you are using to record. It narrows the field of sound but does reduce the sound level a little, but I'm experienced with sound, Most people wouldn't notice any difference. Great to use for interviews and close up stuff and will handle some distant audio (like in my church which has a PA and band it comes through sounding decent.)
Features
Most useful feature is that it's pocket sized so I can keep it with me and that I can listen through the mic.Least useful feature? Only has software for iOS but you don't need it - any audio software will work, and work better than Rode's app.
Ease of Use
Quite easy to get good sound. Just be close enough to hear the sound, point the mic in that direction and listen through the mic in case you need to adjust it.
Quality
Durable product, only comes apart in 3 parts (main body, screw-off front, and rubber clamp) With care it should last a few years if not more.
Value
Yes, I bought a resealed one and it is doing well.
Manufacturer Support
Have not need it yet.
The Wow Factor
Great because it allows me to focus the mic instead of the omni-directional phone/tablet mics.

I am a YouTube livecast/podcaster and I would be lost without this mic! You need NO additional software to go live or record a podcast on YouTube. That being said I have never used it for anything else and always on iOS devices. I was confused at first because if you plug it straight in your head phone jack and record straight to your device nothing happens. I called Rode and spoke to a engineer and he said I needed to buy software to make it work even on YouTube. I called him back and told him he was wrong and should know his product better.
