This pedal combines a ring filter, a germanium fuzz, and an overdrive. Darker than most fuzz boxes and overdrives, this will take you places other pedals won't. But it isn't for everyone.
Sound
The ring modulator is very similar to the Octavia, but with a more abrupt cutoff. Like any other ring modulator, it is more pronounced above the 12th fret with the neck pickup. The fuzz is rather unique because it utilizes a selector knob that you can use to dial in different fuzz flavors. According to the documentation it is an eq type knob where you can dial high pass, low pass, mid boost, mid cut (scoop), or low boost filters. To my ear they also affect the fuzz waveform to a degree. It's almost like having six different fuzz pedals in one. The overdrive took a while to get used to. I mostly use it as a clean boost with just a touch of hair. The overdrive is much darker than any overdrive I've used. It sounds nothing like a Tube Screamer clone with a flavor that is entirely it's own as far as I know (I haven't heard everything). The overdrive and fuzz can be activated together, but are in parallel rather than series. What I don't like is there is a huge volume boost when both are activated. On their own it is easy to balance the volumes but not so together.
Features
The most useful feature is the eq knob on the fuzz. The least useful feature is the fuzz and overdrive operating
Ease of Use
This pedal has a steeper learning curve than any I have owned before. In fact, I almost returned it. But I kept playing with it and finally found some tones I like. Be prepared to tweak this for a while because it does some really cool things, but it isn't for everyone.
Quality
It's Pigtronix. It's well built and laid out well.
Value
It depends. It's cheaper than buying all three pedals. But if you don't like one of the effects it isn't worth it. Also, the used market isn't great for these. But if you like all three effects and are willing to spend some time tweaking it's well worth it.
Manufacturer Support
Again, it's Pigtronix. They stand behind their gear and are eager to help. I haven't contacted them about this pedal but I have for others and they've always gone above expectations.
The Wow Factor
The versatility of this pedal is it's strength and it's weakness. You can do a lot with it if you are patient and methodical.
