First, let me say that there is simply nothing like Roland V-Drum kit. That said, I fell in love with this NUX DM-8 kit. I will say that it gets the job done and is a decent comparison to the Roland kits. I have also played on an Alesis, and now for the last time thanks to this kit! Before I dive in with my review, I am a classical percussionist and band director by trade. I also play drumset and percussion for musicals and in a cover band.I'll start with the bad first:It's an e-kit, so subtlety/touch is naturally limited to programming. Playing ruffs on the snare pad confuses the trigger at times. Also, responsiveness does not accurately interpret velocities between 50 and 90 (give or take) on any of the pads. Lastly, the hi-hat module is not as consistent with pressure from the pedal. I've adjusted the settings, but the issue still exists. The good:EXTREMELY sturdy! Pads and cymbal arms will not move while playing! Also, individual instrument voices have several tuning/eq options! You can run audio through the "brain" via Bluetooth so drums and your chosen track come through the outputs. The kick pad is not as bouncy as the Alesis kick pads.Transporting is not too bad. While the rack is sturdy, it's light enough for one person to carry with one hand. The sound themselves are great! In closing, if you are on a budget and want something fun to play on with good sounds, this is the way to go!!
