This thing is fantastic. I own a 251 clone, some 67 clones with GE Tubes, a u47fet clone, a pair of 414's, a pair of TLM102's and a variety of other ribbons and dynamics with which to compare against, not to mention I've sung on a variety of high end mics in studios for jingles and other recorded projects requiring everything from rock to r&b vocals on them. This thing is high end. It captures what is sent into it and spits it out in a musical way. It is a great mic to use when you want to reveal the good your preamp has to offer. It really does a great job in bringing out the positives in any decent preamp. It likes to shake hands with good equipment. So far I've had the luxury of testing it out on a Dizengoff D4(Redd47 inspired pre), a Burl B1, a 1073 clone and a Vintech 1272. Every subtlety that each preamp is capable of is brought out and slightly enhanced by this mic. I really love this mic as a great all-arounder with a decent lean in the direction of flattery. A great empty canvas that works great with a variety of different preamps. Mine is staying with me forever.

I have purchased this mic for the sake of having at minimum one microphone from the king of microphones. I have put together clones of the Neumann U-87, microphone The ELA M 251 microphone and while I enjoy those particular mics for what they do, this microphone certainly has its own character while remaining Neummanesque. In terms of how it sounds, it is very well-balanced throughout the spectrum of EQ. It is not overly bright nor harsh, it is not to mid forward, it is not too bassy, the sound is very pleasant to the listener. When pushed with (vocals that is) the response is almost Ai in that it remains extremely smooth. My voice is very strong in the 3.4k range and this microphone handles it pleasantly without any noticeable alterations. If you can afford it get it! It doesn't sound like any other mic and that's what makes it worthy. The patterns and filters and pads work incredibly on drums, brass and as a room mic too. Paired with Antares Mic Mod plugin? Pscheeww! Done deal!!!

"Quality build"

Newly purchased. Tested this mic with guitar, banjo, upright bass, spoken word, male vocals and trumpet. Compared it side by side to a Mojave MA300. The MA300 tends to be a bit boomy but also creates a warm round capture. The TLM107 has a flat response so color is not a plus or worry. However, all frequencies are available to add or cut without adding noise as the mic itself is quiet. Honest is a good word. Stringed instruments came across as true. Spoken word and vocals with pop filter is a must as the mic is sensitive to plosives. With pop filter attached close proximity is not an issue and allows the mic bring sparkle and clarity to a male voice without boominess. This would be a great audio book mic. The various settings make this mic very flexible. We found figure 8 on a guitar created a natural recording with depth without adding Fx. Trumpet came across strong and clear. The 107 had no issue with the trumpet volume. Horns will sound killer with this mic. The build of the 107 says endurance. It came in a wooden case with cut foam. The only negative on the case is the hinges have two points per side that are pressed into the wood. Small screws probably would have been better in terms of quality statement. The shock mount had to be purchased separately but is very necessary. The mic is very sensitive so handling noise is noticeable and potential mic stand vibration will probably transfer to the mic. The mic build quality with a shock mount make this a great addition to your collection. I would use it in a recording studio or in quality live shows.

"The Twist!"

I purchased this mic because it has the Neumann brand, only! I have used it in conjunction with my Discreet 8 and it has a very true and flat sound but still the Neumann quality and signature PHATNESS! The twist is that I use it with Antares Mic Mod EFX and it transforms into the modeled sound and still has exceptional detail and fullness. In short, when I want a Neumann, I have it but when I want a C800 G, it is more than convincing. This mic is great in more ways than one.
