"Killer amp"

Killer plexi tone in a (slightly) quieter package. The studio vintage is just about the perfect size for getting to the edge of breakup while playing with a drummer. The channels are seemingly voiced to be jumped as they are quite different from one another, but blended together are perfect (classic). While the amp is perfect for playing with a group, even on its 5 watt mode it may be a touch loud for home use if you can’t be loud. It’s still a useful mode though. Zzounds shipping was wicked fast.

Wow, I just bought this. I have had a lot of Marshall's over 42 years of playing and this smokes them all. This is the tone I have been looking for since the early 80's. First, This thing is LOUD!!! even on the 5 watt setting. You could absolutely gig with this especially if you bridge the channels. This Head, is clean with no pre-amp so you need a overdrive. I use a Ibanze Super Metal Pedal that I have had since 82. The tone, is like AC/DC and every other band from the 70's and 80's. It just punches you in the chest. It is very responsive and just blows every other amp I have ever owned away. It has a lot of bottom end, but it can be dialed back. You really just have to hear this thing. Just a great amp.

Musical Background:

42 years experience.

Musical Style:

Classic Rock, Hard Rock, 80's Metal...

Thank you to zZounds and thank you to Marshall, this Marshall Studio Vintage 20 watt Plexi is AMAZING! Absolutely perfect amplifier for me, the one I've been searching for my whole life! I've always always always wanted this sound ever since I heard Jimi Hendrix for the first time when I was eight years old, and thanks to Marshall and thanks to zZounds now I have this fantastic amp and it is absolutely perfect! This amp is fantastic for playing with a band in the most common type of settings like someone's garage or a smaller bar. 20 watts really is the sweet spot here with this amp it seems, it's just the perfect wattage and the perfect amplifier to be able to crank it up all the way and get that sweet singing power tube saturation and gain and this thing just absolutely SCREAMS with a Fender Stratocaster and a Dunlop Hendrix Fuzz Face! If you're on the fence about this amp for some reason, and you love plexis, pull the trigger man! You only live once for God's sake! And zZounds makes it possible to buy a really great Marshall Plexi like this with their excellent payment installment plans that I greatly appreciate! Absolutely zero regrets about purchasing this amplifier, and zZounds now has me as a life long customer with how satisfied I am! Thanks!!!

"Marshall Studio Vintage Plexi 20"

Just picked up a 2019 Marshall SV 20 used. It looks brand new, functioned and sounded ok.First thing I installed all new tubes. JJ ECC83S and Tung Sol. A BIG improvement over stock. This amp is self biasing, like Mesa. I am pushing 60 and have owned and played nearly everything there is. This is one sweetheart of a amp. It is a touch sensitive amp that is warm and full bodied with good headroom, yet very articulate, with excellent dynamics. Probably the best Marshall clean tone ever made by the boys across the pond. Chords have a breath and bloom quality. Sounds fantastic with my Gibson Les Paul Classic P-90. Its is the loudest 20 watts ever made. The 5 watt mode allows a little more drive on volume and is used at home, but it can get very loud with a lot of headroom if needed. I use the normal input on low gain and the EQ is around 12:00 on the knobs at home. If you rely on gain and distortion to play guitar, this is the wrong amp for you. At moderate levels it has almost none. You can play play fast on this amp straight in, hammers, pulls, etc, yet it is not even a overdriven sound. A quality overdrive in front and your in classic rock heaven. This where the amp shines and belongs. Only drawback to this entire amp is channel 1 is voiced too bright, not nice for sure, with all eq and presence down to 9:00 or less and bass up it can be done, but really....stay out of channel 1, PROBLEM SOLVED. Its a 1 channel amp anyway there is no footswith option. I never use effect loops on any amp because it ruins the amp tone, no comment on that. Forget all that jumping the channels BS, it's totally not needed and kills the tone. If playing in normal channel and jump it to the bright channel, it just gets brighter and louder, not better. it actually gets worse. Too much monkey see internet crap on that subject. BOTTOM LINE : This is a really nice sounding and playing amp that a professional will really enjoy owning. I am very happy with the SV 20 and this one is a keeper in my collection.

I was very impressed with the Studio Jcm 800. This one not so much. And yes I understand its a low gain amp but it had no real sustain, the edge of breakup tone I was hoping for just wasnt there Well built but IMO pass on this, get a full size plexi. Or the Studio Classic.

Bright channel totally unusable until its in overdrive. Does not take pedals well in any input. Plug in the effects loop and poof!...... she's fried. The guys at zZounds were very good to correct the problem, great customer support from you guys.

I just purchased one of these I will say without a doubt don’t pay attention to YouTube videos and forums this amp is loud I give that but can be tamed with a Boss ME-80 or 90 effects and does it well to with the volume pedal built in you can turn up you settings on the amp and then use the ME-80 or 90 at will to adjust volume loudness without it being harsh and still have all the articulated sound without losing its fullness ( like rolling down the volume on your guitar ) it’s still there and without the use of an attenuator as everyone has been saying ( THAT YOU NEED TO BUY) to use this ampComplete BS ..that’s just completely the opposite. And I did just that for about 4 hours playing several genres from Zepplin, Ratt, Quiet Riot, EVH, Ozzy Randy Rhoads days to Jimi Hendrix, to the Beatles it’s all right here in this fire breathing Marshall Head . Again do your own homework and I hope this helps someone that’s been looking at these and have been watching video after video and forums spitting out mis-leading info . My review here is to pass information that I know that’s works tested and true and with the Boss ME-80 or 90 built in EQ , several OD’s, Distortion, Delays etc. Volume pedal a Plus Output level on preamp section the list goes on and on .. This can also be achieved all separately as well and if you already have it your golden bit of not and your a budget go with the Boss . Sorry for the long post but had to be said as you don’t always need attenuator and I didn’t by this amp to do that either I want it loud but it can e tamed this far with excellent results on my end .Im not promoting Boss here but if it’s works I’m telling others that don’t know and just maybe it will them some money for buying tones of pedals that still won’t get them there and can have the all in one with all you’ll need for the above genres I’ve mentioned above and then some . End conclusion go for what you want in life we our only here for a little while enjoy it

Read my description it’s speaks volumes

Do not pay attention to the last review ( Titled ) unusable.. complete nonsense 20 watt plexi is and absolute beast if anyone is saying it isn’t they don’t know how to use it and don’t deserve it anyway Lol . You can play any genre if I wasn’t any then why did Jimmy Page , Hendrix, Randy Rhoads , Eric Clapton use it just to name a few .. I know it’s not a 46 watt or even the 100 watt JCM800 but if you know to use this amp head it will sing through a 4X12 cab for that matter even a 1X12 as I play through for practice daily. This is unbelievable amp head and gets loud and proud glad to own one and the JCM 800 20 watt they both our great amps the reviews you see and here on YouTube and others alike it’s absolutely nonsense must be apartment players and can’t turn these bad boys up and its more then just the amp the guitar you play the pickups that our in it single coils , or humbuckers Lol .. I hope someone that’s starting out playing see’s this and has been wanting a Marshall amp go ahead and get one you’ll love it

Make no mistake this thing is loud and proud And true to its existence . I’ve have t this very long but let me tell you it’s beast I’ve been playing several genres of rock , classic rock ,contemporary, it does it all with ease run a eq through the effects loop and she comes alive I’ve also been using a Boss ME-80 through the front of this amp and the WOW just out at yeah no matter what you throw at this little monster it produces massive sound though a 2X12 cab loaded with V30’s and will leave you with a big smile on your face every time you turn this baby on . A big thank you to zZounds for making it possible to own these magnificent pieces of gear and easy pay plan I don’t use any one else if isn’t broke no need to fix it you guys rock .
