Okay, first things first... This is not a high-gain amp. If you want that look into the DSL Series. This amp is based on the earliest Marshalls like the JTM45. It doesn't have a master volume so there's no overdriving the preamp but it's a great "pedal platform".For CRUNCH I use an MXR Classic Overdrive fed into an MXR Distortion + and for old rockers like me who got started in the 70's the sound is incredible. On a clean setting it sounds remarkably clean but not "Fender clean".The 'Tilt' setting is great for tweaking the tone. I personally set the Treble around 3 or 4 and set the Tilt at around four. The amp is fairly bright so go easy on the Treble. The only complaint I have, besides not having reverb, is the 8" speaker. There's very little true bottom end. An external speaker cabinet is the best way to get the most out of this little powerhouse. The output is 16 ohms so you're limited options-wise. I use a "cab merger" to run two 8 ohm 2x12's in parallel for a 16 ohm load. Those cabs, one open-backed and one sealed, makes 5 watts sound like 35 - it can roar.I haven't used the FX loop but I love the Boost function. With the included footswitch you can kick in some extra decibels for a solo.In terms of cosmetics this a really attractive amp. It looks like something from days gone by.I would definitely recommend this amp to someone looking for a good low gain amp.

So I had been looking at this amp for awhile and there has been a price drop so I decided to get one. Now days I either play at home or record so a 5 watt amp seemed a good way to go. At first I was a little disappointed at the sound I was getting but found the trick is to turn the tone controls all the way up, engage the boost adjust volume to desired amount of crunch and adjust the tilt to taste and boom there was that classic Marshall sound. Flip the switch and cut the output level which I found to be nice late at night. Set the way I described above this little amp can get fairly loud but not ear-splitting. Haven't yet tried recording with it but years of experience tell me it should be just fine, stick a nice ribbon mic on it and go. Finally, it's an all tube amp!

Simple little amp. Good sound, not a lot head room for cleans but its has an 8 inch speaker. I like it, it's good for bedroom and studio. I wish it had a reverb, and a little more room for cleans. But all in all 9/10. The service through here is top notch, not one complaint. I am already looking for an upgrade because of the easy pay plan.
