I’m very happy with this head!! I’ve had it about 2 weeks. Sounds great through my 4x12 cabinet with Celestion cream backs. Great addition to my amp arsenal in my studio. Great service as usual from zZounds!!!

"The modern Marshall sound at a good price."

Pros,1. A 20 watt full tube amps with actual EL34s)not EL84s) for a powerful sounds that holds up under high volumes without breaking up. The EL34s power amp tubes give this amp so much more headroom.2. 2 channels with a foot switch for both channel with an FX loop on/off feature on the foot switch.3. A decent built in digital reverb. It's not the best, but it's still very usable.4. For an inexpensive amp it actually includes presents and resonance controls.5. The high gain channels has a three band EQ and a mid cut switch. IMO I think the mid cut switch sounds horrible, but it's there. Also the high gain channels has a ton of gain and bass response to push this amp into modern metal territory (with an overdrive and an EQ of course).6. On the back it has an emulated out for silent practice with headphones, a line in for cell phones and MP3 players, 3 speaker outs(8ohm and 2 16ohm) and best of all an FX loop.Cons to be fair,1. The clean channel isn't all that clean. In order to get a decent clean sound you'll have to use lower output pickups and turn down the volume on your guitar to make sure you don't push the front end too hard. The clean channels breaks up easily which could also be pro for some people.2. Under high gain this amp gets a ton of low end and the mids tend to be a bit scooped. Also using too much gain this amp can get muddy(even for modern metal). I highly recommend an overdrive in front of the amp and an EQ pedal in the FX loop to control those unwanted tone. With those two pedal this can do anything from classic rock to modern metal.3. The mid cut switch IMO is a useless feature. This amp is already a little scooped so adding that doesn't help. All in all for my purposes of wanting a quality classic rock to modern metal amp this amp fit the bill perfectly. Now if you're looking for this to sound like a Marshall JCM 800, JCM 900 or a Plexi you'll be disappointed. The closest sounding amp to this one is the JCM 2000, but it doesn't as much headroom and the cleans aren't as good. This pairs great with Celestian V-30s and Greenbacks. I know because I own both types of speakers, but everyone has a different taste so you may disagree.

"Great Marshall Tone on a Budget"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

For a bedroom/apartment player, this is a great gateway into Marshall tones. Much more improved compared with the prior DSL15H/DSL15C predecessor. For $500, this amp delivers on all points that you can expect from a budget amp.

Bought this one from zZounds a couple weeks ago as a used/blem unit for only $224.95. Its like having a hotrodded Super Lead on the Ultra Gain channel & a Fender Twin Reverb with a bit of a Marshall JTM 45 on maximum gain on the Classic Gain channel. To get the Classic Gain channel a little dirtier I took out the lower gain stock ECC83 tubes in V1 & V2 and replace them with the high gain Shuguang 12AX7B's. I also replaced the stock JJ EL34 II's with the Shuguang EL34-B's which have a more original vintage Mullard EL34 tone & earlier breakup and more harmonics. Bottom line: For the money I paid, you can't beat this amp. This amp is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!

I was happy in the beginning with the sound and features. I gigged it one time, after that, the band kicked me out for being too loud and aggressive, hahaha! Anyhow, first time owning a Marshall tube amp, and I was stoked. It sounded great, and had the dirt, and tone, that made it music to my ears. But, the party didn't last....At some point, something failed inside. The sound became thin, and muddy. I had purchased a DSL 20 Combo from zZounds also, didn't play it much, until the head didn't seem to act "right." Plugged the combo into the 4x12, HUGE difference! My sound was back! The head needs to go to the tech guy...

I try to buy DSL40CR and too heavy for my age and decide go to amp head. Just found 20 watts head and I order it. Just arrive today and sounds are great, clean and overdrive are original Marshall sound. I own Marshall Plexi hand wire 100 watts head and Marshall MkII original 50 watts head. This small head is not much better but sound what I looking for not too loud and easy to handle.Combo also I don't want to break in speaker. I love this small head.
