Perfect size guitar for playing at home or in the studio. Not much more you could want out of an 800 dollar solid wood Martin. Love the sustainable materials in the guitar and gig bag. The small details make this a thing of beauty. Ebony fretboard is beautiful and the OOO size make it a lot of fun and hard to put down. Tried out some of the new Gibson generation models as well as the smaller body Taylor’s and honestly from a tone standpoint I don’t think they compete. My favorite feature is the aged finish on top. Very similar to John Mayers artist series in terms of looks. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase. zZounds is the only place I order my instruments from. If your thinking about it do yourself a favor and pull the trigger. You won’t be let down.

First off, this is a killer guitar. But it had some corners cut. There’s a ridge where the fingerboard meets the neck. It was on both sides. It was massively annoying. So I had to sand it flush with micro mesh. It was purely finish and not wood. It ended up being fine after 20 mins of buffing. The fretboard was super dry, and had some decent fret sprout. I put it in my humidified guitar room for 2 days and 50-60% of the sprout went away. Did the fret ends and oiled the board while changing strings. The saddle was sooooo tall it’s unreal. Had to sand off like half of it for it to be playable. I expect to do some setup work but this was so incredibly high for action I was shocked. The nut was cut very well. Maybe this is just how Martin is shipping this so ppl can adjust to their liking? All these setup issues aside, the guitar is great. The feel and sound are amazing for its size. I also own the original Djr and this 000jr doesn’t disappoint! It’s punchier, and has better string separation. But as to be expected it has less bass. The aged toner is so much nicer looking in person. Top grain just pops. If this guitar had been gloss it would have been incredible! But it’s still really nice. Can’t wait to see how it opens up as the years go by! My main complaint it the gold foil logo. My cleaning cloth snagged the M and pulled/bent part of it up the 1st day I owned it. Martin, please start doing a topcoat spray over these logos, it’s unexceptable and it’s going to happen eventually being a raised logo. Had to put a warranty claim in for this issue after two days of ownership. We’ll see if Martin sends out a new logo or not. The bag is great! Very nice zippers, and the straps are very well padded. I put a new set of Santa Cruz parabolic low tension strings on this mendes and it just sings! I typically use Martin retros, but these SC parabolic’s are on another level! All in all I would buy this again. I have a number of Martins and love the brand. I honestly think that these travel/couch guitars are a bargain for being all solid wood and have a very nice bag. I would gladly pay an extra $50 to Martin for a better setup and maybe some fine tuning of the fit and finish….and a better headstock decal.
Sound
Great for finger picking and strumming. Single notes stand out well. Very bright tone, with a bit more muted bass response. Hopefully it will open up and mellow over time. But a very nice, punchy and bright acoustic with excellent funamics, and pretty loud for its size
Features
Love the dolid woods. Wish the top was gloss, as well as the headstock. Also hate the foil Martin logo. Prone to snagging and peeling up.
Ease of Use
Fabulous for cowboy chords, past the 5th fret the action was soooo high it was very hard to play. After a setup the guitar is very playable now
Quality
Very well made guitar. The ebony is gorgeous after oiling. Construction is very well done. All bracing was sanded and fitted well.
Value
It is worth the $$$. But be prepared to possibly do some tlc and setup work out of the box. DO NOT clean around the logo at all. I took great care and it still snagged and pulled up
Manufacturer Support
Contacted customer service about replacing foil logo on headstock. No response as of yet.
