I play two to three gigs weekly. I will play this kit for years and years to come. The only thing that would lead me to replace this kit is if my band gets signed and the record co lets me buy what ever I choose, at which point I would choose mapex again (top of the line kit).
Sound
Ditch the batter (top) heads right away. Put Evans Genera 2 clear or coated heads on the toms, An Evans emad on the kick and a Evans Genera coated with a inner muffle ring on the snare and you will be blown away with how great this kit will sound.
Features
The product as a whole is very user friendly.
Ease of Use
very easy to set up and use.
Quality
A good friend of mine is a seasoned pro. He does a lot of studio work, teaches and gigs with many different bands. He put Evans Genera 2 heads on my kit. He was blown away the M-birch. In his opinion the construction, the finish, the sound and quality of the hardware met the standards of kits twice the price.
Value
You can't beat the value of the m-birch. The package as a whole is an insane deal. With the free tom you have the set up for many different gig situations. Some times I play it as a four peice, it's very versatile.
Manufacturer Support
My other kit is a Mapex venus that I have had for 8 years and never had an issue with it. I'm sure that this kit is just as rugged.
The Wow Factor
I ordered an emerald green kit and when it arrived it had a blem in the kick. Zzounds was right on top of it, they had a new honey amber on the way to me that day with return ups labels for the first kit. The honey amber in my opinion is the most bad ass natural looking finish I have seen on a kit to date. when set up on stage it jumps out and says check me out. People are always asking me where did you get that kit and constantly comenting on the beauty of the finish.
