With all the column arrays out now, picking the right one can definitely be a challenge...especially the lesser known brands as they don't have many reviews. I own an event rental and production company so I'm fortunate enough to have tried a few out now and the LD is absolutely my favorite thus far. I've purchased the JBL eon one, the Turbosound ip1000, and now the LD curv 500 es. While they all have their advantages and quirks, the LD seems to work the best overall, for my needs. My first requirement was that the built in mixer have input level knobs for each channel as opposed to the single rotary encoder approach. The LD's are easy to turn, and recessed nicely into the sub box. They face upward so they are easy to see and theres even individual control for the subwoofer. The es series can be run in mono and also different variations of stereo. The only downside to this is the pole doesn't carry the audio signal to the column like some of the others. You have to run a cable from the sub to the satellites. Build quality seems good. The sound is very clean and punchy, even at high volume. It plays down into the 40 hz range, which is plenty low for most of the gigs I will use it at. It has much more low end thump than the ip1000 and about the same as the JBL. I like that the expansion set doesn't have a mixer and saves you $300. Bluetooth is easy to connect but has the worst range of the three brands. Several mounting options for installing or flying the satellites further expands the uses for this system. The handles on the sub are well placed and easy to grab but the tops have no handles and are slightly heavy so I click them together one by one on the pole instead of trying to lift all four at once. Overall I am very happy with the LD...I wouldn't mind doing a side by side comparison with the EV evolve 50, as it has a 12" sub and similar SPL ratings but at $1599 it's quite a bit more than the LD. Especially if you want a stereo set. The EV's would cost you $1000 more than the LD's. I would definitely recommend these if you're on the fence, and as always, thank you zZounds for the top notch service and ridiculously fast shipping!JoelSFTX Event Services
