"Packs a wee-punch as a standalone ++ midi-key controller & fun/simple to assemble"

Great synth to tinker with as a nice and compact desktop unit. Satisfying to build, and as soon as you plug into usb you have sound coming from the built in speaker of the unit when you tap a key. Yes! Software included comes with some nice additional plugins for your DAW. Specific midi cable (non standard) needed to use MIDI and transmit is not included as usual. ++ Can be used with the right cables as a side-chain or another signal processor in your recording setup! Great value and zZounds got it to me within two days, can't be beat at that price.

"The effects alone are worth every penny, and you get a great synth, too."

This little thing is awesome. I run my MIcroFreak (which has zero effects) through it and that sounds amazing! The synth engine is very deep for a synth about as big as a guitar pedal. It has 20+ oscillators which can be shaped, an LFO, an arpeggiator, and did I mention the effects? Enough Mods (Chorus, Ensemble, Phaser and Flanger) Reverbs and Delays to make the sound massive. I can literally shake the windows in my house with this!Putting it together was like putting a circuit board in a little metal box and then putting the rest of the box together around it. Took about 15 minutes.I'd give this 10 stars if I could. Excellent piece of gear!

Okay if you have a way to control this thing, and not have to use its pathetic resistive tape "keys", then you'll be fine. But if you think you'll just use it as is and make anything sound even close to, on key then you're in for a rough ride. This thing is fun, and is just about infinitely expandable. Just make sure to buy the midi cable and use it. Otherwise you'll just be sad, like me, until you spend another $100 or so bucks.
Sound
This NTS-1 seems to have some heavy static on the plug if you power it from a PC usb port. Otherwise it is capable of some truly stupendously wide sounds.
Features
The resistive tape keyboard is absurd. Whoever thought of that should be terminated. Take that however you like.
Ease of Use
It is incredibly easy to start making amazing sounds from this device. for how small it is and how lightweight it sounds like a large piece of kit. It can make other instruments sound like they are massive. But that dang resistive tape keyboard is a joke. Don't expect to be able to hold a note on it.
Quality
Considering I built it, I give three months... I'm just kidding, it is built like a tank, with super long screws so even the thumbiest of people can assemble it. It even came with a cute little screw driver. This thing is all electronics, and it appears to be conformal coated so it wont die immediately with a single drop of water, it should last for years as long as it isn't juggled around to rough.
Value
Honestly I think this thing could be repackaged in a smaller box and sold for $60 bucks. Right now it is just to expensive for what it is.... and that freaking resistive tape keyboard is..... Ooooohhh I hate it.
Manufacturer Support
I haven't had any issues... yet.
The Wow Factor
It is good at what it does, and since I can't return it, I guess it'll help me in my music making journey.
