Jackson JS2 Kelly Bird Electric Bass

A serious value, this Bird sings with thunderous tone thanks to an offset mahogany body loaded with Jackson's high-output humbuckers and high-mass bridge.

Just got this bass and I'm very pleased. Finish and factory setup were perfect, barely had to tune it out of the box. Good sound from the pickups and simple controls. Comfortable to play both standing and sitting down. It's actually a pretty huge instrument, but I dig it. Also the sunburst is much darker in person, which looks better than the photos. The quality here is way above the $300 price tag.

Arrived triple-boxed. A beautiful piece; everyone in the room was surprised, saying things like 'Oh wow' and 'Man, that's beautiful.' The finish is flawless, no blemishes of any kind. Fit and finish are excellent. No snags, no sharp frets. The fretboard feels nicely rounded and totally smooth. No buzz. POTS are very snug and feel like quality. Intonation is perfect, I would say slightly low-average. Despite playing Telecasters for years, I prefer thick necks on basses (1.65" at the nut). It's a standard 34 scale, but the neck feels very long, due to the reverse body shape, but that is to my taste also. The JS2 (like this one) is mahogany body, where as the slightly more expensive JS3 is poplar. I much prefer passive, like this JS2 version. So far, I can get nice, mellow sounds when using mostly the neck pickup. Passive is just simpler and fast to get going. It was easy to tune in five minutes or so. I have to believe that this thing is way more than adequate through intermediate level at least. I do not regard looks as a most important factor, but I wanted something that did not look like what everyone else plays, which are mostly Js and Ps, whether Fender or some other brands. I love Fender basses, it's just that they are everywhere played by everyone. Any bassist would likely enjoy this, as long as they prefer a full-sized 34" scale. zZounds is a real pleasure.
