I purchased the TMB400 almost a week ago now and couldn't be happier. While I usually do extensive research before making a purchase, this one instantly caught my eye on zZounds. The beautiful finish, neck, versatile pickup configuration, and classic body shape were exactly what I was looking for. Especially at the price-point.While I've owned Ibanez Soundgears in the past, this bass offers a more vintage-inspired feel with modern enhancements. The active pickups provide a wide range of tones, making it suitable for various genres. I was particularly impressed with the balanced volume across all strings, especially the G string, which is often a weak point on other basses. Once you put it through your amps and pedals, you can generate any tone you need. The bass arrived well-intonated, requiring minimal adjustments. The neck is neither too thin nor too thick, offering a comfortable playing experience. Although I appreciate the old-school aesthetic of the headstock, the tuning key placement could be improved. However, this is a minor quibble. While it may not have the same clarity as a high-end Fender, the TMB400 performs exceptionally well in a band setting. For the price, it's one of the best basses I've played. I am trying not to compare this bass to more or less expensive basses. I will say that, the laws of diminishing returns on instruments definitely begin to apply past this bass. The overall quality, features, and stunning finish make it an easy recommendation.
