"I Own This Bass"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

When I say I own it, I mean I own THIS bass guitar, the one in the picture. I can't put this instrument down, it is always the closest thing at my side. Out of the box I could not find a thing wrong with it. The fit and finish were really great. I had to adjust the truss rod after a bit as there was a bit of noisiness, but that allowed me to lower the action even more. This instrument is really silky smooth to play, with a thin neck, super light due to the semi hollow body. The tone is excellent, and the piezo output can be adjusted on each string. So I feel this was just the perfect bass for me, just feels right, and I love the music and sound that I can make with it.

"Great Fretless"

Ibanez really nailed it with this bass. Easy to use, two knob bass that has a great fretless tone. Bass is very sensitive to hand position so there are a variety of tones to be found. Bass intonation was set perfectly (like Gary Willis style). Out of the box I could have taken this to a gig and played comfortably. Body and neck are both comfortable. Black fret lines on the board are useless to me but don't get in the way. Compared to the Portamento this may seem like a very simple bass. Having owned the Portamento it is. The Portamento is a fine bass but there are almost too many tonal options. With the SRH500F I find great sounds tones with ease. Records very well and sounds great in a mix too.

"Nice fretless, mostly"

I'll say this is a very comfortable bass. It almost urges you to play it. Yes, if you need the fretlines or think they'd be helpful - they're not on this, since they disappear into the fretboard, but otherwise it's a nice looking, nice playing, nice sounding bass. I will say I had issues with mine. I had to return the first one within two weeks because the pickup for the G string stopped working and there was nothing I could do to bring it back. Kudos to zZounds customer service for arranging for me to ship back and getting a replacement into my hands quickly, no fuss no muss. The only complaint I have on the replacement is a little thing but it's one of the details that should be paid attention to at this price point - the rear pickup cavity cover is the wrong size, so I had to trim it down so that neither it nor the control cavity cover were bent. It's a small detail, doesn't affect how it plays, but does dampen my feelings towards an otherwise excellent bass. Still, if you're looking for a fretless, it's definitely worth checking out.

Musical Background:

Playing something since 5th grade with few breaks here and there - woodwinds, guitar, bass, some piano.

"Ibanez SRH500F Fretless 4 String"

I've been looking for a semi-hollow, piezo fretless bass since I sold my Rob Allen MB2 years ago.zZounds came through again with fantastic service and the perfect bass. The SRH500F captures everything I've been looking for.I replaced the stock strings with LaBell 750n black tapewounds. This gives me amazing upright-ish tone at a fraction of the cost of a Rob Allen. At 6.75 pounds and effortless action, this is my new go-to fretless. The fretless and zZounds are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
