3 Ibanez basses later....I ordered the SR606E with the blue burst. fret ends were pretty sharp for a 900 dollar bass as was as a slightly noisy preamp. Sent back got the 5 string version because I thought maybe selling more of them they would possibly get better attention but I think I got a B stock. The neck had what looked like a hunk taken out and glued back. I say this because of the hump I felt over that area. I didn't even plug it in, I sent it right back.I thought maybe spending the bucks on a premium 5 string with KTS rods and fret end treatment would be the way to goto avoid such things. I ordered a numbered one, saw the exact bass i'd be getting. Out of the box I was impressed with how it looked in person. I wanted it, it looked amazing and being a 1600 dollar bass I was like, MAN this is going to great. well, not so much. SUPER noisy pre and a ground issue in the front pickup. I believe the pickups are microphonic. Every switch click and smallest tap on the bass anywhere came through the amp as loud as the bass itself. I didn't even mention the nut being too deep on the G string causing massive fret buzz. I did call Ibanez'z warrant guys and was going to send it back and even got a repair number etc etc. After a good night sleep I decided this just isn't acceptable for a $1600 bass and decided to return it. I specifically ordered this one because the other 2's bridges looked off center. The wood on the center line maybe was off and the bridge was fine but I didn't want to take a chance on that.I have to admit, I'm pretty disappointed in all 3 basses from Ibanez, which is odd because I've played them in stores and had buddies with them i've played for extended periods and felt they are great basses. The 2 were under a grand I can understand having some QC issues but not on a premium bass. What are we doing Ibanez? Go look at the pics on this last one listed and check out the bridge's placement and you'll see what I'm talking about. This is a 1600 dollar instrument? Maybe that should have been a red flag when ordering the other, like hey, maybe these guys aren't all that great and have QC issues, but it looked right, the wood grain was great, the bridge was lined up with it correctly and so on. zZounds is great, no issues with them. They have always treated me kind on the phone, that guy Sam rocks man. Give him a raise. Speaking of, in this crap economy I hope they pay people what they are worth. Guitar center and music and arts don't (I teach for them) Im not sure what I'll end up replacing this bass with. I'm in need of a 5 string (been playing a P bass for the past few years, and no I don't want 5 string p, I want something opposite) so I'm at loss and back to shopping. I'm not sure if I'll go with Ibanez again but I always be glad tp spend my money at zZounds. I literally have nothing bad to say about them. If you are on the fence about shopping with them take if from a guy that has bought a Roland V kit, a Gibson DC bass, a couple of pricey guitars and some odd things like a mojo tone Strat harness, all with payment plans, they are the best out there. Maybe they should giver Ibanez some pointers eh? That's my long winded review. Have a good one.
