Ibanez RGDIR7M Iron Label Electric Guitar, 7-String

What do you get when you pair a 7-string with extended 26.5" scale? The Ibanez RGDIR7M's beefy growl is articulated through its DiMarzio Fusion Edge pickups.

I got this guitar after having a bad experience with an Epiphone Les Paul 60s Tribute. Not in anyway zZounds' fault. They were more than accommodating with helping me return it and issuing my refund. I play in B standard/Drop A most of the time anyway so a 7 string made a lot of sense for my purposes. Like the other review, the only thing I had to do to make this guitar perfect was adjust the action a bit lower and also slightly lower the pickups. The locking tuners are excellent and work exactly as they should. The intonation is set perfectly. No blemishes or imperfections in the wood. The frets are dead on. No buzzing at all. I actually love the pickups as well. They're not super high output. I would say they're medium which is perfect for me. I use fuzz pedals for most of my sound and it works out great. The neck is wide but thin and you get access to all the frets effortlessly. I would no doubt buy this guitar again.

"A 7 String That Is Well Worth It!"

At first, I was very unsure whether or not to purchase an Iron Label series after seeing some bad reviews on 7string.org and other places. I later found out that those bad reviews were pertaining to the first series of Iron Label(the black ones). After debating between several 7 strings, I decided on this one. I had an Ibanez RG7321 years ago, and remembered how comfortable Ibanez was compared to other brands. My first one had what looked to be the paint scratched or something on the headstock and some small little slits in the wood on the back of the neck.zZounds was nice enough to issue an exchange and my new one just arrived today.MUCH better, and oddly enough, even plays better than the first one.I highly recommend this guitar to people who are looking to start with a 7 string, or who already play. This guitar is great for metal and very heavy music. It also comes set up in A standard(KoRn tuning), so it is ready for heavy playing.Overall, I am happy with my purchase and just need to lower the action a slight bit.

I have been playing guitar for almost 15 years and drums for about 8 years.

I am a picky person. Skip my review if you aren't concerned with tiny details. 1. Paint drip at the neck pocket. 2. Tool marks on the side of the fret board. 3. Gouges at the high end of the fret board. 4. Last fret not even glued in all the way. 5. Pickups came to me dirty. Now that the nitpicking is out of the way lets move onto the playability and tone. FYI: I enjoy hard rock and metal. My current setup is with an EVH 5150 III through an Avatar 212 cab with Celestion V30's. Simple and hard to get bad tones with. Although not with this guitar. The pickups on this one seemed to lack everything but shrill high end. The sustain was not there, the fretboard felt like I was playing a 2x4.. I have never been so upset with a guitar purchase. I really do think this was just a one off thing but I don't know how this could have passed QC at Ibanez. I wish it could have worked out. It does look cool.. But for the money.. Just no.
