Ibanez RG8PB Electric Guitar, 8-String

Beyond its striking poplar burl top, the RG8PD's Wizard II neck, jumbo frets and dual IBZ-8 pickups all combine to give you a low-register shred machine.

It's a great guitar! The burled poplar is a real standout. The 5 piece neck is comfortable, albeit the fret ends could use work. Then again, it's not a high-priced guitar. i don't really care for the stock bridge, so I'm replacing that. The stock pickups are clear-ish. The nut DOES come out if you try to do any bending more than semitones on the 1st fret. If you feel like getting an inexpensive guitar and doing your own upgrades, this is absolutely perfect!
Sound
It gets a little muddy when getting down to the lower frets on the 8th string. The pickups leave a lot to be desired. Definitely a pickup swap.
Features
The woods are absolutely great! The fretboard came feeling a little dry, but that's an easy fix. The fret ends were awful. The bridge looks and feels cheap. BUT the pots and knobs seem to be just fine!
Ease of Use
It's a very playable guitar! The transition to an 8-string can seem daunting, but it's actually a lot easier than one might think.
Quality
The wood is great. Mahogany is never a bad choice. The poplar burl is a fantastic looking top. That being said, if you're a serious musician, you're probably going to want to upgrade virtually everything else.
Value
I'd like to see a lower price point on this, but it's still pretty reasonable.
Manufacturer Support
I've never personally had an opportunity to work directly with Ibanez.
The Wow Factor
It looks rad!

"Wonderful 8 string for a steal!"

I instantly fell for this axe. I do a lot of slap, tap, thumping and tapping when I play and the neck responds well. It is surprisingly comfortable to play throughout high and low registers. The pickups are pretty weak, but for the price I expected to have to put in an after market set anyway. I'm so sold on Ibanez RG8's now that I'm trading in my Prestige s5470tks for a Prestige RG852mbp.
