Wow, just wow... where has this amp been all my life!? I bought this as a "practice" amp for my bedroom but wanted to have the ability to use it during jamming and live performance; this amp is surprisingly compact, weighs 49 lbs but it has side handles making it pretty easy to move around. I have a Warwick Thumb 5-string and it sounds SO GOOD through this amp and this amp has no trouble with the low-B string. Having the mid-range contour is a "must-have" for me - I like the "Jaco" sound (it's actually closer to Michael Manring's tone on Thonk) and I can just dial it in. I also have (amongst others) a Martin BC-16e acoustic/electric bass (4 string) and I was blown away - in my experience most amps make an acoustic bass (when plugged in) sound like a regular electric bass... they seem to loose the "acoustic" quality... this amp makes it sound like an acoustic bass with a ton of volume, just a growling, organic, woody sound. And the volume... I can't turn it much past 1 when I am playing along with music in the bedroom, I mean you have 500 watts on tap so yeah, it's got plenty of power. I LOVE THIS AMP!!! Great job Hartke!!

As a pro bassist, I've played with just about every speaker configuration imaginable: 1x15, 2x7 (PJB), 2x8, 2x10, 4x10, 6x10 (Ampeg), 8x10 (Acoustic). But if I told you that the 4x8's with Hartke's famous paper/aluminum Neodymium speakers where the best, most articulate speakers I've yet heard, for under $1500, you might not believe me. But you should. I've only been doing this professionally for 40 years! Pushing 32 inches of air with 500 real watts and a very usable (one knob) frequency shaping circuit is a recipe for greatness. Volume at 3 shakes my house, and I am not a light touch at finger style or slap. Tonight, I get to take it to the stage where I'm sure I'll have more than enough power, and the Direct Out to the board is right on top where the sound man can find it in the dark. The included casters are a bonus if you have to move it around the stage, studio or house. There's no horn tweeter, but you won't miss it with the shapeable circuit giving you all the brights you'll ever need, or more bottom than you'd expect for us 5 & 6 stringers. There's no speaker out, but extra cabs defeat the purpose of a combo anyway, and you have the D.I./XLR for bigger venues. My stack days are long behind me and I've found that today's combos pack all the punch that I need and I won't need an SUV or a pickup to get my rig to the gig. I own several amps for various size gigs from my 250w Phil Jones Bass 2x7 to my Fender Rumble 800w which has been my all purpose go-to when there's no back line, but this 4-driver wheeled combo is moving into the starting lineup for my local work! It's a bargain at under a grand and may very well be the only amp you'll ever need short of playing a stadium.

The specs say 250 rms, 500 peak. That makes this a 250 watt combo. At $700 for 250 watt bass combo there’s other’s that rate their wattage more reasonably.
