As a voice over talent of many years, I am constantly striving to improve the quality of my studio equipment. I purchased an EV RE-20 dynamic microphone and Cloud lifter for my second voice booth. My three year old ($250) mic preamps with +70dB of boost-up to +65dB, combined with +25dB from the Cloudlifter added too much noise. The noise floor moved from -65dB up to -39dB, which is not acceptable for audiobook narration. I simply needed a better preamp to use the RE-20. Being limited by budget, I looked at preamps in the $300-$600 range. After comparing some great mic preamps, I chose the Golden Age Project Pre-73 Premier Preamp because it has soldered circuits, power up to +80dB, was in the price range ($500) and has great positive reviews with only one or two minor cons. The first time I fired up the Pre-73 Premier preamp connected to the RE-20 through the Cloudlift, it was crystal clear, took about 40+dB to drive it, with a noise floor well below -70dB. Next I disconnected the Cloudlift and it drove the RE-20 with the same clarity and power at +60dB... and had power to spare. It was clean, uncolored and perfect for my studio. The Pre-73 Premier also includes high and low pass filters, a 3dB or 6dB switch to ad air, and a -80Hz roll off. I found that I didn't need to add any EQ or processing- maybe a very light amount of compression. I am excited to produce my next new project, because the sound has improved tremendously. Get the preamp... music or VO, it will make a difference for your sound.clarity and quality of my productionThe Golden Age Project Pre-73 Premier Preamp is amazing
