"Oh, the SOUND of it!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
This SOUND would be tough to replace without spending $3,000+ so I suppose I'd get another one.
Sound
When I get strumming some old CCR tunes, my wife has to turn up the TV, and she's at the other end of the house! This 12-string really sings out. I like the Elixer strings in medium. They are a little "warmer" than some - less brassy. Guitar has awesome sustain and is brilliantly clear, even at its loudest.
Features
Great-looking gold Grovers, of course. This guitar was designed many years ago as a 12-string, and as such it is strong and solid (and weighs a bit more). I expect the neck to stay straight for decades. I tune it at 440 (not 1/2 tone lower). But listen... there's nothing up-tight about the sound!
Quality
The only possible drawback is the finish, which is "good" but not up to the level of my Taylor 915CE. From a few feet away it's great, but up close and personal... Guild (Fender) should have worked a little harder on the gloss. Mechanically (structurally) it is supurb!
Value
Good value. Remember, this is a rosewood acoustic... so it ain't gonna come cheap.
Manufacturer Support
No experience.
The Wow Factor
Not a "10" due to finish comments, above.

Musical Background:

Hobbyist re-learning guitar after many year vacation.

Musical Style:

Fingerpicking and strumming: Soft rock / classic rock / folk / country.

"Best Playing 12 string on the market."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
Beutifull, before I bought my f512 I played other fenders ,Ibenez, Martins and so on, but the strings are set up for better playing with this guitar. you can acualy get your fingers in between the strings to do some picking, unlike the others. and the sound is far better. I played my old guitar for my wife and then my new f512 and she finally understood what I was paying for.
Features
the rosewood is beutifull, this guitar should last years.
Quality
I would have given it a ten, but Guild needs to spend a little more time on the finish to get a 10
Value
Overall you get what you pay for, although if you don't want to spend this much, the f412 would probably due.

"People-one of the BEST 12 string guitar players of all time-Leo Kottke-said he could NOT believe that this was a MASS PRODUCED g"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
There will NEVER be an option, or the NEED for me to even try to find a comparable guitar. It's the SOUND people-the sound. Really nothing bad to say about this guitar that affects the sound or performance of it in a concert setting. It's a work horse of a guitar!
Sound
First, I own 2 Guild 12 strings(the other one is the F312). Both guitars I have played in concerts, the larger one touring with B.J. Thomas and opening act for Leo Kottke (who could NOT believe the sound of this mass produced guitar. If you're wanting the BEST in a 12 string sound, this is the guitar for you. I have used both light & medium strings. When I used the medium, I did tune it down a half note-just because I was advised to. I have a JBL acoustic sound system for speakers and the sound of this guitar has always been clear on the high end, and strong-deep sounding when I tuned it down to E tuning.
Features
I had a pickup installed from the factory on this baby (I named her Bertha, lol). Mostly, just because I wanted it done right. That way, I could just plug her in at the peg (where you would attach your strap). It has worked out the be great, and I've played a lot of concerts & clubs, also studio work.
Ease of Use
Believe me-it's the ONLY way to go for a 12 string guitar. It's very playable for a 12 string, but remember I was playing more than the average person. (I did have a callas on several fingers, but when you play A LOT per week-you learn what a 'file' is in a hurry.)This was NOT due to any neck problems at all, just me over playing my poor fingers.
Quality
The quality is A rated, but I would have to agree that Guild factory should paid more attention to the 'finish' on the 'top' part of the guitar. Mine over the years has a few cracks in the finish, but may have been due to traveling. I brought mine, like a said from the factory. At the time I opted to 'pass' on the warranty, because there were SO many things that it did not cover. (I made them cut the price down due to this exclusion.)I got a REALLY good deal, bought in 1970, if I remember right.
Value
This guitar IS worth it's weight in gold, if you're looking for THE BEST 12 string.
Manufacturer Support
I never had any problems with this guitar and I still own both of my Guild 12's. Both are still playable, and in very good shape. The factory was always easy to talk to.
The Wow Factor
When you walk out onto a stage with this guitar on, people know the name. It's been used by many well known artist in the music business.

Musical Background:

professional singer/performer/writer

Musical Style:

light rock, folk, pop, some new country

"A Stunning Beauty"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
I chose the 512 w/ rosewood back and sides because it has a somewhat richer, fuller tone than the maple, which tends to be a bit thinner and brighter. It has beautiful, clear definition.
Ease of Use
Very nice action and as easy to play as any 12-string I've tried.
Quality
This is simply a gorgeous instrument all around, from the beautiful wood and finish to the gold hardware - stunning.
Value
There are less expensive 12-strings out there, but they're not up to this standard - just like I wouldn't say a Porsche is an exceptional value, but there's nothing like them.
