Gibraltar 6608 Motorcycle Top Double-Braced Drum Throne

Nothing's worse than playing for hours on an uncomfortable throne. The Gibraltar 6608 features thick padding and an ergonomic design.

This throne is so solid and comfortable, I might have to buy another one to replace my office chair. Quality construction - you could probably fend off a Terminator with this thing.I can't rate it on sound because it's, you know, a drum throne. But it sure is comfy while I make noise on the kit.(Also: It comes with stickers to show your loyalty!)

Sound engineer, audio consultant, struggling bass player who really should move to drums

"Major Upgrade From Tama HT130 Drum Throne"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

After much research I settled on a Gibraltar 6608 drum throne to replace the Tama HT130 throne (their most basic model, about $55) that came with my kit. The Tama throne is stable enough but I felt, literally, that it's lacking in comfort, as my glutes and hamstrings were unhappy after about twenty minutes playing, and every five or so minutes thereafter I'd have to readjust my butt. I went with the motorcycle-style seat because I thought that it would help alleviate the hamstring issue but if I found it annoying for any reason I could simply rotate the cushion 180° and effectively have a round seat. Happily, I find the motorcycle seat extremely comfortable and relaxing, to the point where it's actually improved my drumming. The Gibraltar throne is very solid--I weigh 165 pounds--and well built, but I docked it half a star because the wingnut that's supposed to keep the seat from rotating is too close to the bottom of the seat, making it difficult to tighten, and even when I used a pair of pliers the seat still swivels a bit while playing. This isn't a huge problem but I'd prefer it didn't exist. At this price there might be thrones of equal value but I doubt if there are any of better value. Oh, and zZounds has the fastest free shipping I've found anywhere.

Fine, well crafted, comfortable throne. Will last forever. Good chrome, bracing, upholstery, grippy rubber feet and good maximum height and easy adjustability. Kind of flabbergasted that no drum key was included!? Just to see if I'm paying attention, no doubt...

Musical Background:

Playing forever, hope to get good someday

"EDIT: "Major Upgrade From Tama HT130 Drum Throne""

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
This is an update, about six weeks later, to my previous review "Major Upgrade From Tama HT130 Drum Throne", which I submitted when the throne was brand new and before I created an account here. I still find the seat cushion still very comfortable however, after averaging about ten hours a week playing for the aforementioned six weeks, the throne has become noticeably less stable (if not less functional). Upon scrutiny, I've determined that the nine rivets--three at the seat stem collar and six at the double leg bracing--have seeming loosened a bit, such that forward-backward and left-to-right movements are noticeably more wobbly than when the throne was brand new. I still weigh 165 lbs and am not what I'd consider a "heavy hitter" on my compact six-piece kit with a single bass pedal. I don't think the throne will suddenly collapse, just a heads up if anyone finds it helpful based on personal variables.

Easy to use and affordable and much more comfortable than my old Round throne. Only draw back is it doesn't swivel to adjust height.

Not Good! I am a large man and I purchased this looking for a weight limit. There was no weight limit at all. The seat broke, and I did all I could to contact the right people. Phone numbers were no longer in use and I called other possible numbers with no answers. A warrenty is only good if you can contact the company. zZounds did all they could by suppling me with an email address however, I'm STILL waiting for a return answer from my email. Buyer Beware!!

Musical Background:

50 years of drumming.

Musical Style:
