The day i got the guitar, i had a hard time putting it down, imany complain about the burstbucker pickups . saying they are harsh sounding..but for hard rock , or heavy blues, they are perfect. The sound packs a serious punch. The push/ pull knobs are brilliant, you have the choice of a humbucker , or a p-90 tone at your finger tips. This guitar is actually lighter then a standard sg. But plays more like a les paul.Making this guitar a hybrid. If you play rock. or blues, i highly suggest this guitar. Jazz players may want to avoid.
Sound
For hard rock and blues, the bright , punchy tone is perfect. I listen to all kinds of music , but i enjoy playing rock , blues, and a bit of metal. So this guitar fits me like a glove.
Features
The push / pull pots are great. Keep them down and youll have a classic humbucker sound, lift the knobs, and a good single coil sound . very very versatile.
Ease of Use
Once you get the hang of the push / pull pots..the sky is the limit. And without the les paul weight.
Value
Well...yes this guitar comes with a hardshell case. And yes its worth the $$

The Wow Factor
Hmmm....well. Ill idmit , its not a " flashy " guitar, its simple and practical. But the maple finish is pleasant to look at.

Gibson hit a home run wth the SG Modern, Maple top, 24 frets, mother of pearl inlay, Burstbucker pro in the neck, Burstbucker pro + in the bridge, coil tapping, this SG is the best playing and sounding SG I have ever played in my 45 years of playing, Ive played many SGs over the years but none like this one, the neck feels amazing, different than other slim tapper profile necks, has more beef. Finish looks awesome on the blueberry fade I purchased, love this guitar.

Just got my SG Modern today, and this guitar sounds as gorgeous as it looks. I have an SG faded (with the cool moon inlays) and its an awesome guitar in its own rite, but the neck on the modern is a perfect fit for me. The pickups have a bright and beautiful tone' and the finish is beautiful (I got the black). I bought a Epiphone Sharoton Pro last year from zZounds, and once again the service is great (although Fedex sucks...). zZounds never disappoints.

Hello Friends, the Gibson SG Modern is quite the instrument for anyone that loves old school sound with new school features. I was totally floored with the sound and build quality of this instrument. The finish is really beyond belief when you see it up close. The pickups are balance and the weigh of the guitar is comfortable. There's no doubt that this is a home run in Gibson's catalogue of fabulous products. By all means, give one a try. I'm sure that you will be just as thrilled with this SG as I am with mine.

What a great guitar! The long neck with 24 frets, ebony fretboard, AA maple top, burtsbucker pro pickups, coil taps on the volume knobs all add to the traditional SG lightweight design. Mine came setup OK, it just needed a slight tweak on the truss rod to make the action perfect. No neck dive- impeccable. I can't put it down. It's a beautiful piece and I'm very happy I added it to my collection. It SCREAMS through my PRS Custom 20 amp and feeds back beautifully. I highly recommend getting one if you're in the market for a modern style SG.
