I own many guitars. This one is outstanding. I’m sure Gibby changed one little bit of red dye in the color mix, however, if you’ve been looking for an oxblood guitar and don’t want to pay Custom Shop prices, it’s a good choice. More importantly, excellent axe and the 61r and t humbuckers are perfect for this guitar. Accurate repro of the 60’s SG super fast/wide neck

"Gibson SG Std. '61 Aged Cherry"

After playing a 2019 SG Tribute for a bit, I decided I really like the SG format. When I saw the 18-mo PaYP promotion for Gibson, as well as the Aged Cherry finish, I put SG Tribute up for sale and pulled the trigger. If ot for the Aged Cherry finish and gold hardware I would have passed or gone for a LP Std.This guitar is absolutely gorgeous! I did lower the action to my liking and this thing plays and sounds like a dream. My complaints on the SG Tribute were: Maple neck, no p'up covers, no binding, red color, dots instead of traps and the bright sound of the 490's. The SG Std. '61 addresses all my dislikes, including a slightly darker tone. Not dark, but slightly darker than the 490s, imho.If you are thinking about this guitar, pull the trigger before promotion ends. As I understand, there is no drop dead date when it will end, so act now!

This is seriously my favorite guitar I have ever owned - I have not been able to put it down since it came in a few days ago. If you are hesitant just do it - you will not regret it. The baby pic that comes w/the guitar seals the deal.

"SATAN'S GUITAR - HAIL SG "

In the 1990's I was a teenager who loved listening to the Doors and Black Sabbath. I dreamed of playing a Gibson SG electric guitar. Fast forward to 2022 when zZounds launched the Gibson Exclusive SG Standard '61 in Aged Cherry gloss nitrocellulose finish. My nostalgia kicked in and I knew I had to have it. What I received in the mail was the actual guitar displayed here on the site, Serial# 220920093, and boy did it smell super nitro delicious out of the box but it had problems. When I inspected the truss rod there was a lot of left over pink buffing compound inside the cavity and the lacquer was already chipping off the headstock veneer. The side of the nut on the 6th string was also chipping off lacquer and there was poor workmanship done on the the GraphTech nut. The 4th string, D string, sounded sympathetic like a sitar. There were scratch lines along the guitar body finish due to maybe dirty polish rags. But the final straw for me was Gibson's own check list provided with the owner's manual and baby picture. The team member at Gibson's final quality control just drew a vertical line down all the boxes of final inspection instead of checking off each box. Gibson prides themselves in their owners' manual about their quality control and how they check off each box and sign off in the bottom of the checklist to insure that a guitar has passed quality control. They must have sent me a demo guitar. I immediately called zZounds and they processed the refund right away. Thank you zZounds. The new SG I received brought back all the nostalgia of wanting a new Gibson SG 61'. All boxes checked off accordingly by Gibson. It didn't smell as nitro delicious as the previous SG but some wet nitro vanilla smell was present. Unplugged this guitar plays like a dream and it stays in tune perfectly with D'Addario NYXL's 10-46. There were a few problems, first was scuffing of the finish on the upper lower bout of the body. This seems to be a known problem with Gibson and if you want to see what I'm talking about go on YouTube and check out the video "Why I Won't Be Keeping My New Gibson SG" by the YouTuber Shred Shed Guitars. This guitar was it for me and I couldn't return it. The exclusive aged cherry finish with gold hardware and modern ABR-1 bridge was the cherry bomb on top. I eventually changed the bridge volume pot and pickup to a Dimarzio D'Activator because the Gibson Burstbucker 61' bridge pickup sounded weak and the bridge volume pot was defective in wiring. Gibson did send me a new replacement volume pot under warranty. The blank truss rod cover was not doing it for me so I decided to honor the man that the guitar was made for, Mr. Les Paul. Apparently in the early 60's he played the SG for the first time and he tried to do a jazz run up the neck but his left hand hit the lower horn of the guitar. He was in excruciating pain. He must of complained to Gibson about a divorce with Mary Ford and how this double horned guitar they want him to play now over his now discontinued Les Paul guitar is the devil's guitar. Gibson took note and named it the SG. Today we fanatics know it as - Satan's Guitar!Overall I give it a 4 to 4.5 out of a 5 stars for being a +USD. $2,000.00 Gibson USA guitar. Gibson please step up your quality control.

You guys, this guitar rips! Seriously though. I have always loved SGs and how light they are and just the whole vibe. I ordered this one from zZounds and used their payment plan and had this bad boy on my front porch in 2 days! Mine is 6.4 lbs and the gold hardware looks awesome as well. These 61r and T pups have a nice little bite to them. And the nut was cut very well! No string binding issues on the G and D. I gigged it 2 times now. I can literally do 1 and a half step bends on the G and still play an open chord and it's money. Nothing worse than tryna rip a solo, going back to playing rhythm and......Uh Oh! All of a sudden your singer is looking at you like he wants to slap the fire outta ya! Then the drummer will be like, "who brought the out of tune guy"? Tbh, it's all bad. So yeah, great guitar, and now you can rock one that isn't The normal cherry color. Oh and lastly, this finish almost looks like Ebony, but when the light hits it, it's a very nice dark Cherry. Anyway, yeah this is a keeper.

Really Amazed by the tone and playability. Really better that I could have hoped for. Built 1/25 it blows away my LP thats a year older sells for $900 more. The finish/transparency the wood grain, shape and smoothness of the neck, Pick Ups clear as a bell and have the grit I love when I dig in. It's the best electric I own. I love the gold hardware on the aged cherry. The SG arrived safely in 2 days thank you zZounds top notch! One minor disappointment is the lack of detail on the case candy the checklist has very little information no weight no picture at the factory otherwise Perfect

I haven't played an SG this good since the early '80s. I'm very happy with this outstanding instrument. The quality is top notch, the playability is as good as a $4,000 guitar and it's tonally superior to all other SGs on the market. I'm glad I bought it and would happily buy another if something happens to this one.

I see many grievances about the QC on these models, however, I purchased the Aged Cherry hardtail. The first one had a problem, it had been played and wasn't brand new. But the replacement was brand new and perfect in every way imaginable. It's now my favorite guitar and I thank zZounds for quickly taking care of bizz.

It's a beast. It's very beautiful with some of the best playability one could ask for and the '61pups sound awesome. Once again Gibson nailed it, and as usual zZounds came through with flying colors. AAA+++
