"Excellent Guitar"

I am very pleased with my purchase of this guitar. The sound is great, the build is great, the playability is great. I haven’t had a Gibson in several years, but I can’t stop saying what a wonderful guitar this is. I’ve had several guitars through the years including a few mid-range Martins. The D custom Martin sold through Guitar Center is the only one that compares well to my G 45 standard. zzounds is great to deal with. I’ve purchased several things here and have been very happy each time. And the price for this guitar is unbelievable. An American all solid wood guitar with an excellent hard shell case, I don’t know how they pulled it off. Anyways, I have never given this good of a review for any guitar until now. If you have a budget of around a thousand dollars, buy this guitar, you won’t be disappointed.

"Punchy Walnut Growl"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I’ve had this instrument for a couple of weeks and am really enjoying my new slope shoulder Gibson. It’s sound is unique. It still has the typical Gibson J45 growl in the mids. It has really good sustain even though the top bracing is not scalloped (which to my understanding, is a first for Gibson). The instrument can get quite loud. The bass response is good without being overpowering. Every note rings true and there isn’t an abundance of overtones which is perfect when I am singing while playing. Think of the solid walnut back and sides as being directly in the middle tone wise between mahogany and rosewood. It has a very woody tone. It’s hard to articulate it exactly with words, but very woody. It’s warm but still punchy. Fit and finish on mind is top notch. The people in Bozeman did an amazing job putting this one together. The back on mine is a little darker than those I’ve seen online but the book matching is near perfect which can be difficult on walnut. I love the nitro finish on this guitar. I’m not a fan of glossy looks on an instrument at all. The walnut fretboard is gorgeous and the neck profile is very comfortable to play. Like most Gibson acoustics, it just feels right. The staff at zZounds made this very easy. I’d wanted this guitar since it was revealed at NAMM and with the “pay as you play,” I was able to buy the instrument and start enjoying it immediately. Thanks zZounds. The only issue I had during the process was that my box the instrument came in was beat up pretty good by FedEx. Upon opening the box, there was a slight indentation and rip on the back of the case. I fixed it as good as I could but it is noticeable. I don’t blame zZounds, but FedEx obviously could tell it was a Gibson Guitar since it was shipped in the original packaging, and they treated very roughly.
Sound
The tonal characteristics are very similar to the J45 studio but the G45 lacks scalloped bracing. It’s more direct in its delivery of the note(s). The finish on this guitar, I believe, give it an advantage to those with more finish. It sounds very woody and authentic. It has some of the J45 growl in the middle of the range but with the immediate response this would work well for a bluegrass picker or someone covering 60’s Rock. I think it’s the perfect instrument for recording. It doesn’t have wild and swirling overtones or too much bass. It definitely has been set up to push the kids all the while the upper octave notes don’t have that metallic jangle that I get from my Martin. It’s very recordable and would be an amazing guitar mic’d up on stage, especially a solo act.
Features
I’ve yet to try the onboard electronics but all of the Fishman sonitone pickups I’ve heard are okay but definitely not as good as a system that has both piezo and a mic. The neck is a mahogany like wood, but it is all solid wood construction and built in the US in Bozeman, Montana.
Ease of Use
The playability is beyond what I expected. The action is low but not too low as to cause buzzing if/when you strum aggressively. I measured at the 12th fret and it’s 5/32 on the bass and 3/32 on the treble.
Quality
I don’t see any manufacturing issues or shoddy craftsmanship. The only thing I want fixed is where the saddle extends beyond the bass strings, the saddle itself is sharp at the end. When I am playing finger style, it gets my palm every time. It’s not sharp enough to cut, but it’s not comfortable.
Value
For an all solid wood instrument that is made in the US by hand, yes.
Manufacturer Support
I never received an email after I finished my registration of the instrument online. I’m not sure if it has been registered honestly. I should call them.
The Wow Factor
It just looks cool. I’m more of a function and sound type of guy but the instrument is beautiful.

This is the first Gibson I’ve owned and bought it a few weeks ago during the Covid “stay-at-home” time here in California I needed something to make my hours in-doors more productive. The G-45 was the right choice. I was a little concerned about having the guitar shipped from the warehouse, but zZounds has several across the country and mine came from the Nevada site and only took a few days to get here to SoCal. The guitar came in a Gibson case inside a Gibson box and then inside another box that protected the guitar well during transit. I’ve really enjoyed playing this guitar for the past few weeks. It has a really sweet sound and the base strings in particular really put my old Yamaha acoustic to shame. I havent hooked it up to an amp yet as I’m still deciding on the right one. Coincidentally, I subsequently got a call from one of my old band-mates from high school who asked if I could join our old garage-band at the next reunion for a few songs. Should be a blast with the new Gibson!

"A Phenomenal Acoustic from Gibson"

I think the J-45's title of the workhorse might have to be handed down to this guitar. It's a truly no frills, what you see is what you get tool to create some beautiful sounds. If you've heard a Gibson acoustic before, I'd say this compares pretty well sonically, however, it does have a brighter, almost snappier sound that I absolutely love. The electronics are really decent. Although not the best, at least it does include a Fishman out of the box, something pricier guitars don't always include. Overall, I cannot recommend this guitar enough.

It would be hard to find a finer acoustic than this Gibson G-45 Studio. As a close to Kalamazoo native I've owned several Gibson's. I must admit their price range on many of their acoustics is way past my means. This guitar is well within it's price range at twice the value. Thank you Gibson. Peace, Michael Angelo

Sounds amazing out of the box, the look, finish, and feel is better imo, than many other higher priced AE guitars ive played. Ive been playing for 20+ yrs and Epiphone was one of my fav. brands of acoustic guitars, and then i played a Gibson, it was a G45 standard, which was a beautiful sounding guitar, but for me not worth the xtra $300 on top of the G45 studio that i purchased. And imo this guitar sounds better than the Standard i played at the local shop. Im very happy with my new Gibson and you will be too, the hardest part is putting it away!

I traded 2 guitars to get this gem, but after taking it home, wow I feel in love with it! Its accoustic tone is punchy but so clear, no one string dominates. The action is very good also. This one is the best value for any American guitar electric or accoustic!

In the market for a good acoustic, I capped my price range at around 1500. After considering several other guitars, I went with the G45 Studio. I don't use it plugged in and am bare-bones in terms of style, but if you want a great sounding simplistic (but beautiful) guitar, this is a great pick! The sustain on it is pretty solid, and it's a great balanced sound. Definitely recommend.

From the time I unboxed it upon arrival to the time played the first chord I was VERY IMPRESSED with my new Gibson G-45 Studio Acoustic-Electric Guitar. American made quality! The guitar came in a very nice plush lined Gibson hard shell case.
Sound
In my opinion, how a guitar sounds is most important. My sound review is based on being played unplugged as I am still debating on what amp to purchase.First off....the guitar arrived in perfect tune. I have had the guitar for five days and play it a lot. It is STILL in perfect tune. I am amazed that I haven't had to tune it. I love this guitar, I and can hardly put it down. This guitar has a very wonderful, unique sound. I do a lot of finger picking. From the first time I picked the guitar up and played a finger picking tune, I was mesmerized by the crisp clean sound being produced. My wife walked into the room and exclaimed, "Wow, that sounds great!" Each note was so clear! I then did some strumming. Once again this guitar was unique in a good way. It sounded Angelic lightly stummed and had a powerful precise growl when played hard.
Features
Being the Studio version of the G-45, Its sound for recording is its top priority. It has the look and play of a quality American made guitar without the unnecessary glitzy extra' s.
Ease of Use
Plays easy...I will update more when I get the amplifier.
Quality
Perfection describes this guitars quality!
Value
I have played guitars costing thousands more than this $1,000 guutar. This guitar has a unique sound not found in the more expensive.Yes, this guitar is more than worth its selling price.

I was a little unsure when I read reviews on the net about the J and G series Gibson A/E. I have had a few acoustic guitars over the years and all I can say is God Damn!!! This guitar is a Winner! The lows have that growl you can feel in your belly with crisp mid tones and sharp pert Highs. This guitar is the best acoustic in my stable and could be if you added it to yours.I’m not really sold on the satin finish but in time I’m sure it will grow on me. Nice case included as well as a humidity kit. Haven’t tried out the Fishman electronics but I’m sure they too will exceed m expectations. Thanks Gibson for finally making a great guitar for the beginner to stage seasoned Pro!!!

"Unmatched value at an unmatched price"

Received mine yesterday, and I still can't keep my hands off of it. First USA made Gibson I've ever owned, and it is well worth it's legendary namesake. Fit and finish are flawless, playability is so smooth. The sound, oh! The sound. It rings out like brass bells over water. It's glorious. Between it, and my Seagull S6, the comparisons are there, but it has a brighter timbre, and a more punchy response (probably the walnut fingerboard). I cannot restate the value for the price (comes with a gorgeous, professional case). It will make a fine instrument for playing for many years to come, and an even better heirloom to hand down to my kids. It even smells like white chocolate and vanilla (The fine folks at Gibson assured me that it was the nitrocellulose finish). Couldn't find a single flaw (or even a micrometer gap in the neck/body joint). An unmatched value, at an unmatched price. Get one and see for yourself! The folks in Bozeman have truly mastered the craft.

zZounds is always perfect. Any issue I’ve ever had there was either the shipping company or manufacturer. I have a Couple USA martins and a Higher end Tak. I wanted a inexpensive decent, playable guitar to take with me places and not worry too much about it. This Gibson far exceeded my expectations for 1000 dollars you will not find a better knock around guitar. It come with a good hard case, truss rod wrench, polishing cloth and to my surprise a D'Addario Humidipak System included. I’m a big time Martin fan, purchase one of their DX series(sold it within a month), tried the 100 series Taylor’s and this solid wood Gibson is light years in front of the others I tried. It’s a no frills looking guitar and would prefer a high gloss top but I realize this keeps cost down. I was lucky, the set up was perfect right out of the box which is a first of 5 guitars purchased and shipped. A real great place d player and great deal

This is a really good acoustic guitar at a great price point from Gibson. It has a nice smooth feel to it, great neck and a great acoustic sound. HOWEVER - when you receive the guitar, you need to be prepared for significant investment to get the guitar into good playing shape. I have tried two of them - the first one had a blemish on the front so I returned it. The 2nd one had a rattling sound on the inside, and really bad buzzing strings all over the fretboard. I actually took it to a Gibson authorized repair facility to have it looked at, and they tinkered with it a little but were not able to get the set up right. I would recommend giving the G-45 a try though. You might get a good one that doesn't require so much. And if you know how to do your own repairs / setups or have someone you trust to do it, it may be worth the time and investment. Also, I emailed Gibson customer service to try to speak with someone about the issues I was having, and they never answered my email, so they get one star on manufacturer support.

"Gibson G45 Studio"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

I've had this guitar for over a month. I can not find any defects. The top is a heavily silked sitka and of a quality found in very expensive guitars. Walnut sides, back and fret board are well matched and equal to mahogany, in my opinion. Balance is fine, good resonance and stays tuned. I haven't used the electronic much, except to check operation. Comes with a good hard case and was received with no defects. The most interesting thing about this guitar is that it has an OM/000 depth (4 and 1/8 inches) The regular G45 is dread depth(4 and 3/4) approximately. However, the bass is not affected much on the G45 Studio. This difference is supposed to make recording easier with the Studio. I am very pleased with this guitar and would buy another and also recommend it as a very good value.

I was ready to bail on Gibson after the "play authentic" video nonsense, but the price and appointments of this guitar were attractive enough to give it a whirl. It was a bit of a saga getting it. I ordered the G-45 Standard at first, which sounded great. However, I'd played a G-45 Studio in a store and wondered if the $300 extra I'd paid for the Standard was necessary. I decided to order the Studio from zZounds just a few days after ordering the Standard with plans to return the one I liked the least. Unfortunately, another Standard showed up. It didn't sound nearly as good as the first one, and I was still curious enough about the Studio that I returned the 2nd one for an exchange. I finally received the Studio, and while it wasn't quite as bassy as the Standard, it seemed more balanced and woody. It was really resonant, especially after I added D'Addario coated strings. The coated strings really work well with this rather punchy, mid-rangy guitar. Go with a heavier pick, and it's got some real meat to it. Don't let the "mid-rangy" thing scare you off. It's warm and the lack of Martinesque boom makes it great for recording. I honestly like the way this guitar sounds more than the other modern J-45s I've played and it has everything to do with balance. The only negative comment I have regarding sound has to do with the pickup. I'm not a fan of under-saddle pickups anyway, but this one was poorly centered and the high strings had very little volume. I would have needed to get it adjusted, but instead, I just pulled it out. I'm going to install a different one later. My only other critiques of the guitar were aesthetic. I ordered replacement pearloid tuning buttons to give it a vintage look and improve the feel of tuning those little mini-rotomatics. The tuners themselves work great. I also replaced the weird faux-wood truss cover with a real ebony one from a seller on Etsy and both those changes greatly improved the look of the guitar. Overall, for $999, it's a very good guitar and I'd absolutely recommend it.

I'm a professional musician for 40 years, and have been doing solo singer/guitarist for almost 20. I bought this guitar as a "blem". The only problem I found was that the piezo wasn't seated properly under the saddle, so it sounded lousy thru the PA. That took all of 3 minutes to fix and now I have a perfect Gibson. I love the sound of Walnut and I love the feel of this particular instrument. I was able to do several gigs with it before the pandemic and have been playing it at home every day since. It does great with capo and alternate tunings. A handmade Montana Gibson acoustic at this price is a steal. I deducted for not having a tuner and she's kind of a Plain Jane so not a ton of Wow Factor.

This is the 2nd Gibson guitar I've purchased that has been a very disappointing experience. The setup on this guitar was terrible right out of the box. The high E and B string buzzed when played open and buzzed even worse when fretting a note in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th frets. The G string made a rattling sound as well which made me think there might have been a loose or possibly even broken brace inside the guitar. Who knows but like the title says I was very disappointed with my purchase but zZounds made it right and gave me a refund and life is good again.

I bought this guitar in April. At the time, I wasn't playing enough acoustic music to justify the price of a J-45 or D-18. I ended up buying a J-45 the next month. I tried to like the G-45 Studio, and I guess it sounds OK to some people, but it feels like a cheap guitar and the setup was garbage. Ordering online, I always expect to do my setup, but a Montana Gibson dead at the 12th fret fresh out of the box? It hasn't been out of its case since May. I should've just lit $1000 on fire. Martin, Taylor and Guild all offer models in this price-range that sound and play better and don't feel like toy guitars.

"Terrible Experience"

I am not really sure who's to blame for this awful experience and terrible guitar. My guitar was supposed to be a 4 day delivery and Fed-Ex messed up and sent it back and fourth all around the country and it ended up sitting in the back of a hot truck for 2 weeks in July. Needless to say, the box came damaged. When I opened the case, the guitar had a rather large scuff right on the front of the guitar. I picked up the guitar and heard something rolling around on the inside, the battery compartment had fallen off of its mount and had been rolling around freely inside the guitar for who knows how long. The adhesive to keep the wiring hidden had melted and the wiring was all exposed through the sound hole. When I tuned it up to play it, I noticed bad buzzing so I looked at the neck and it was warped and twisted causing the buzz and intonation issues. After re-mounting the battery pack in the correct spot, I plugged it in to play it and the pick up system DIDN'T EVEN WORK. Now I know some of this damage probably happened in the truck and Fed-Ex is probably to blame but I can't help but feel like zZounds and Gibson did not do enough quality control on their end. I am waiting for a return label and its been 3 days since I contacted them and still haven't heard anything back. They said 3 days is standard for a return label but Sweetwater processes those instantly in situations like this so needless to say I am pretty irritated and disappointed with my first purchase through zZounds.
