I have several Taylors, Martins, etc. and I’ve owned a Gibson acoustic but didn’t care for it. But I took a shot and ordered this. I’m glad I did. It has a much better sound than any of my others. It’s basic, good feeling and has the sound I like. It is now the guitar I play everyday. I recommend it.

I have seen all the YouTube reviews Some negative, some positive. I decided to see for myself and I am not disappointed. I really enjoy playing my G45. I like the ease of playability, the tone, and the look.I do wish it had binding, so handle it with care. Sometimes I lay a clean polishing cloth over the top sound port to give more outward sound projection.zZounds always allows us to return a guitar if we don't like it within their grace period. Just save all the contents that came with it.zZounds is always accommodating. My first one arrived damaged and they quickly took care of it and shipped the one I have now.

"2023 Gibson G 45"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

The original 2019 G 45 Guitars came with black binding, a hardshell case and electronics. The 2023 G 45 version goes by the same name but does not. Enjoyable guitar just the same-
Sound
Gibson Generation Series G 45 is louder and brighter than my Gibson J 15
Features
I appreciate that ebony wood was used for the fretboard, slightly slimmer body than the J 45. There are similar satin finish acoustic guitars on the market, they're made of Medium Density fiberboard with plastic laminate faux wood patterns. Gibson G 45 is made of real wood. Walnut back and sides with a spruce top and a mahogany 'utile neck. Utilie is one of 250 species of Mahagony. Gibson could have just referred to the neck in their specs as being made of Mahogany but decided to be more specific as to exactly which type. Probably because of the sustainable wood agenda imposed by the Obama Administration
Ease of Use
String height action right out of the box was a tad high for my taste. Higher string action actually produces more volume. I will probably not file the underside of the bridge insert to lower the string action and just leave it the way it is. The neck has a noticably grainy texture to the palm of your strumming hand. I sense the dryness of this guitar adds to the brightness of the tone, I play without a guitar pick. Strumming this guitar sounds as if Im using one. Lots of midrange and lots of volume with the Gibson G 45.
Quality
Compared to my J 15, I expected the G 45 neck to be small the way the Epiphone acoustic guitars are, the G 45 doesn't have a tall fretboard but I wouldnt call it thin. Definitely feels like a full sized Gibson acoustic guitar. Reviews claim that the bridge felt like a plastic material, I don't sense that. Feels like wood to me, it is Ebony. This guitar doesn't come with that new factory Gibson Vanilla scent, it smells like fresh wood and glue. As I opened the box I anticipated the sweet smell of sweet Vanilla I have come to expect from Gibsons other guitars to fill the room. The Vanilla scent of their other guitars will last about 2 years when properly stored inside a case. The lack of binding on this guitar may be a concern for some, if you were to accidentally tap this guitar on a countertop the top may delaminate from the sides. As long as the top and sides stay glued together, I'm good with the way it looks. The grain of the contrasting walnut sides and and spruce top are beautiful. The appeal of this guitar for me was that it didn't have electronics or a gloss finish, if it's cold outside and I leave this guitar outside in my trunk, a satin finish has me covered. A gloss finish would crack and make check marks in the finish. A satin finish isnt going to crack. Electronic soldering may also be susceptible to cold temperatures, with a G 45 that won't be a concern. In the heat of summer any guitar needs to be in a climate controlled environment, the glue on the pickguard and headstock string slot nut could easily melt and seperate from any guitar
Value
Gibson G 45 comes with a gig bag. I ordered a Gibson Modern Dreadnought guitar case for this guitar, not sure how it will fit this guitar as it is still in transit. The G 45 fit inside my Gibson J 15 case like a glove, should be pretty standard sizing. The Gibson Modern Dreadnought case and the G 45 both have the matching silver colored Gibson Block Logo. My Les Pauls have gold Gibson block logos on the headstocks; their Modern Les Paul hardshell cases have mis-matching silver logos. Both the Gibson G 45 headstock and Gibson Modern Dreadnought cases have silver colored exterior guitar case logos in the same font. I do feel this guitar is a few hundred dollars over priced, other satin finish guitars sell for half the price but they aren't made of solid tonewoods. I am however grateful that Gibson caught that and provided this alternative. Sold separately are the Generation seires sound hole covers. I have purchased both the rosette cover and player port cover. If the cover is over the front soundhole you'll hear the player port clearer, if you put the cover that goes over the rosette soundhole you hear the notes your playing through the front of the guitar. People in online reviews say the player port is a gimmick but it isn't, sound travels. A design that Gibson came up with but never produced by them in the early 1960s works the same way today

I bought this guitar because I have a 2020 G-45 Studio that is my main acoustic guitar and thought the ebony upgrade was worth a try. Honestly I can't put it down, the "player port" is really cool because you can hear your playing more clearly. The neck and ebony fretboard is comcomfortable the other G-45 has a walnut fretboard already the ebony feels faster and smoother. The wood grain and finish are stellar. The soft case is top notch and a welcoming addition with my other G-45 hardshell case was a beast (around 30 lbs) this has all the pockets pouches and straps you need with the protection as well, its a great case. The 2020 G-45 had Fishman electronics and the 2021 has no electronics. I feel like its an upgrade, I prefer to mic up. It's a nice modern take on a classic you might be able to find other guitars in the price range and I mostly bought it because of the ebony fretboard and the soft bag.If you like Gibson Acoustics you'll enjoy this one for sure.

"Amazing Guitar!"

Absolutely love the look and sound of this guitar! It sounds like a J45 only better and richer due to the player port! The neck is smooth! It came set up and ready to go with only some minimal tuning needed. The guitar stays in tune for a long time also and I play daily! I have several guitars and this has become my favorite go to! The gig bag is very practical, durable and great looking! Extremely great value for the price!

"Great guitar, exudes craftsmanship."

My first Gibson and probably my last guitar purchase. I have owned American made guitars from several makers including several Martins. This guitar sounds and plays as good. While it has some cost cutting drawbacks (no binding, thin finish and stenciled headstock logo), the craftsmanship is excellent. I was surprised to see that the bridge pin holes were chamfered and ramped and there is no tilt to the pins so, the holes are probably tapered as well (Martin doesn't do this). The sound is awesome whether finger picked or using a pick. The gig bag is really nice. It come with a humdipak, truss rod tool, polishing cloth and a keychain/pick holder. I am happy with this purchase.

"Disappointed"

Overall: 2 out of 5 stars

The guitar arrived a day later than promised. Then, while playing it for the first time, anything above the 7th fret, the first three strings had a buzz or weren't discernable notes. It was a muted shrill, especially on the 1st. string. A truss rod adjustment did little to improve the sound. So, using index cards, I cut shims to raise the bridge. I released some tension on the truss rod, and all the notes sounded except for the 3rd and fourth strings at the 13th and 14th fret. Those notes still have that metal sound. I will add another shim that should fix the issues until I can take it to a luthier. I don't blame zZounds for this problem. I'll lay the issues at Gibson's doorstep. I've played the guitar for 62 years. I've taught full-time for 45 years. The guitar is my bread and butter. I ordered a Cordoba Nylon string in August of last year. It arrived in the same condition as the Gibson, but not as bad. The F# on the first string second fret had a buzz. After adjusting the truss rod, the buzz was resolved. I find these issues odd.
