I will start with the bad:The guitar is advertised as non-weight Relief but only weighs 8lbs which leads me to think they used a slightly thinner top or slab of mahogany for the body. The fret ends were a little sharp but very minor. The strap is a cheap piece of nylon crap(I know I’m being picky here).Ok with that out of the way:I love this guitar .Never played the 490s but they sound warm and also have great bight.Played some old Heart and it nails that tone!Great for jazz too which is what I mostly play.I got a great discount on the 2018 Model too. the neck is not too thin and you can bend the hell out of those frets my friend.I also own a PRS Ce 24 and no longerplay it.This thing rocks and gets a great clean tone on both pickups as well.No bells and whistles just good old Les Paul tone and feel. These will for sure grouping price. They already have since I bought mine. Also, gig bag is really nice.Plush inside and protects really well.Gibson did it with this one.

I just got this as a birthday gift and I was beyond surprised! My bucket list has always included a real Gibson Les Paul and my wife nailed it with this guitar. It's on the lower end spectrum of Les Paul's price wise but honestly the one this thing is a beast. Mine is the satin lemon finish and it just looks classy from head to toe. The lack of weight relief is a huge selling point for me. I'm sure it's all in my head but for me that makes it more legit. The pickups are hot and warm enough to play just about anything and they just sound really tight. I've been playing guitar for about 18 years now and I've played a ton of Gibsons and this one I can say they knocked out of the park. The neck feels phenomenal and the fretwork is really well done.

I used to own a 58 sunburst Les Paul. The 2018 Tribute has the same weight and nearly the same sound as my other model. Amazing tone and famous Les Paul sweet spots on a well designed fret board. Easy to play and get all of the licks that elude me on other brands. Best decision I made all year is buying this guitar.

I have owned plenty of Gibson les Paul's in the past 35 years. This is one of my favorite guitars. I got the satin gold finish and love it. There were a couple problems, but they were easy fixes. My rythm, treble switch didn't work. Easy and cheap to fix. 2nd, there was zero setup done. The truss rod was not even hand tight. I like setting up my own guitar so it didn't bother me at all, but a less experienced player would have seen it as a piece of crap. After working on it for a couple hours, it now plays like butter. zZounds is great, not their fault for Gibson's lack of quality. In the end, the guitar plays like a dream. Setting it up myself makes it my own.
Sound
The sound of this guitar is amazing. The pickups were the perfect choice.
Features
Faulty rythm/treble switch, easy fix but dont know how it left the factory like that. Truss rod 150 percent loose. Another Gibson qc lag. I have been a lifelong Gibson fan. That will never change. Hopefully they will go back to putting a quality product out instead of how many items they can ship out as fast as they can.
Ease of Use
After setting it up, it's one of my best guitars. My main rig is set up like dimebags. Love that sound. I can get just as much crunch as any of my metal guitars and the cleans are amazing
Quality
Again, if I were a new player and was sent a guitar in this condition I would have sent it back. To have to replace a switch on a brand new guitar shouldn't happen. That's Gibson's fault.
Value
Definitely worth the price.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't dealt with Gibson. Easier to just fix the problem myself then send something back and wait for another one.
The Wow Factor
It's set up by me, so its smooth. Out of the box 100 percent undesirable.

Heavy guitar. Fat neck. No frills, but everything you would expect at from a LP. The staff a zZounds was stellar when ordering this guitar. I can’t say enough how I prefer to purchase all of my gear from them. I’ve never had a bad experience and this is my fourth guitar from them (3rd Gibson).

I have only been playing for about a year but when I first got into guitar I bought every guitar I could afford and have a decent collection from Fender to PRS. As far as quality and comfort this guitar beats them all. Out of the box I tuned it up and it played great no issues. The soft case is a definite improvement over the gig bag, the only thing I’ve changed is the plastic jack plate for a metal one and added Kluson locking tuners for easier string changes.

This is a players Les Paul, dont be scared to buy it. the set up was dead on, its a slightly thicker neck than the real thin tapered but if fits my hand better then the tapered neck does.. the curve between my thumb into index finger is filled perfectly, its really comfortable and makes chording easier. The neck is still fast and it plays like it has a gallon of slick 50 on the fret board.. really fast, smooth and easy to fret.. i may have gotten lucky im not sure, you always hear about the one guitar that stands above the rest with a tone you really love.. I love the tone of this Les Paul. the extra weight isnt that noticeable to be honest.. i think it may help the tone as well, not sure but it sounds great.. the pups being a 490 and the hotter 498 are mean but clean when you need them to be.. this isnt my first Gibson or the first guitar in this price range.. This guitar,, i can feel it resonate up into the neck , my others i cant feel it up that high... The case is a very nice soft case with a neck strap to hold it in firm.. Cons- the A string was out of intonation just a touch, easy fix.. Recommendations- to who, YOU? Yes Yes Yes - its solid, well built, great TONE, great pups, i like the solid maple top just as well as the quilted look, maybe better as the wood grain flows up towards the neck and looks bad ass in person.. the fret board is smooth as can be but will need some Lemon oil on it as this one came dry.. If your looking at this Tribute, go ahead and try it.. you can send it back if your not happy but,, i think youll love it as much as i do.. Good Luck on your choice...

This may not be the shiny museum quality 2k guitar, but it is all Les Paul! I like to think of it as a stripped down, no bs, just play the guitar version. I read so many horror stories about Gibsons quality control and with this being my first Les Paul I was really nervous, but I had no issues with mine whatsoever and it played like Jesus himself built it. There is little to no finish on the neck and that's my first experience with that and I know now why it's so popular. Honestly, but this is amazing.

I love the resonance and feel of this solid guitar. I don't feel it is inferior to the Traditional or Classic trim of Les Pauls going for over $1000 more than the Tribute. Happy overall, but there was still work to do when it arrived; specifically, fret dressing not done (sharp enough to feel it cut as your hand slides up the neck) and serious truss rod/bridge work was needed. It cost me over $120 of work from a very reasonably priced guy to bring it up to standard. STILL I feel I came out satisfied. The foundation work and wood quality is there. Just to inform you that Gibson did not put much TLC into finishing the one I received.

I made the mistake of buying an Epiphone Les Paul with the intention of upgrading all of the electronics and hardware. I tied one of these Les Paul Tributes by Gibson and the sound and feel were night and day. I bought this and gave the Epiphone away,

Great guitar! My only complaint was the fretboard was pretty dry. My guitar was inspected in Nov 17, bought in June 18, so it has been sitting a while. Set up wasn't bad, a little on the high side. Keep in mind this Les Paul comes with a Hybrid set of 9s - bottoms heavy, tops light

This is a no frills, American made, down and dirty Les Paul! The satin finish looks amazing and feels great on the back of the neck. The 490r/498t combo allows for everything from creamy Clapton like tones to searing leads and everything in between! The lack of binding doesn't bother me, the whole axe feels like one well built, silky piece of American engineering. The setup was exactly to my liking right from the get go, this guitar just feels right in my hands. Hands down, if you're looking for a true Gibson USA Les Paul but don't have the money to shell on a studio or standard, you won't be disappointed in the 2018 Tribute!
