"2013 Gibson Les Paul Studio"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Little bit lighter than other Pauls. Accordingly the "growl" isn't as gnarled as on other versions. Treble is also not very pronounced. But for an entry level Gibson, this bad boy rocks. Split coils and a beautiful finish.
Sound
Sounds like an entry level Gibson. Very pronounced mids and lows. You'll have to tweek your amp to get high frequency response. But if you want warm tones and a little bit of bite, this is your guitar.
Features
Like the split coil humbuckers and Kluson tuners. All other hardware is standard chrome and does not differentiate this guitar.
Ease of Use
Like a lot of other Pauls, you are going to have to work to keep this baby in tune. But it plays like a dream and looks like one too. It's hard to sound bad on this guitar. It's brilliant right out of the box.
Quality
I hope it lasts 100 years!
Value
Yes.
Manufacturer Support
Easy to reach. Contacted to authenticate Gibson authenticity.
The Wow Factor
The Gold Top is gorgeous. It's beauty is as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the ears.

"2013 Les Paul Studio - Alpine White and loving it!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Just bought a never been used 2013 Les Paul Studio - Alpine white a few weeks ago from zZounds.com. It was the last "blemished" Alpine white available. Was concerned about the "blemish" but it ended up being a tiny little dent next to the output jack that took me two days to even find. After starting with a Les Paul in high school and then selling it and moving on with life and after 25 years of owing a Strat it was time to "come home" to my LP origins. Was worried that the "Studio" wouldn't feel like a real LP. Was I wrong! Went and played a nice $2,000+ LP Standard at a local outlet of a major music instrument store before deciding and the Studio lacks in NOTHING. It's a real LP. The intonation was good and the action is nice and low, sound is awesome. I'm 100% satisfied. Especially with the price. Couldn't beat it! It was my first time purchasing via zZounds.com. Won't be my last.

"Gibson 2013 Les Paul Studio Gold Top"

Just received, Excellent service from Zzounds. Arrived as promised, no problems. Guitar is just as advertised. Been playing over 45 yrs and have 2 other Les Pauls. This is a very nice guitar for the money. I expect to play this one a lot. I will give a more detailed report of the playability and sound later but I don't expect any negative experience with this guitar that can't be resolved by a seasoned player.

I bought one new in the early 80's, loved the full, deep tone and is absolutely beautiful in wine color, with gold hardware ! Chose a black, Pro Jackson sharkfin for metal leads though. I wish I still had the gibson. I've got 20 something now, and have sold, and traded far many more through the years, but that studio has always been the fullest, warm, heavy toned guitar I have ever played, although PRS comes close. PRS has a much thinner neck, and the frets play like butter, with even longer sustain with the through body design, in my opinion, and is much lighter.

It is every bit a Les Paul. Sound, feel, quality are there. Gibson took off $500 worth of cosmetics and saved me over $1,000 over an LP Standard. I have a tendency to get a little mod happy on my equipment but other than strap locks, I think this one will stay as is.

"Cheaply made Gibson"

Overall: 0.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

Both of the pickup mounting rings were warped. The fretboard is very soft and feels cheap compared to rosewood or ebony fretboards.Worst of all, the guitar doesn't stay in tune and the intonation is way off.The nut is really bad and the string slots were cut poorly. The G string slot was actually two razor blade like cuts which definitely affects the tuning and sound.Just a very poorly made instrument. Sloppier than guitars costing 1/10 the price.

"The worst Gibson I've ever owned."

Overall: 0.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

I have owned a lot of Gibsons and this 2013 Studio version is perhaps the worst guitar in terms of quality, workmanship and sound that I have ever owned. Worse than any cheapo guitar I've ever bought as well. The nut was total garbage. Could not keep strings in tune even after an hour of working on intonation. For example, the G string slot on the nut was actually two badly cut razor blade slits. (Back to the nut in a moment.)The plastic around the pickups were bent and warped. The cheap fretboard is almost like cardboard.Back to the nut. I decided to try and switch out the cheap plastic nut for a Tusq XL. Forget about it. That nut is cemented in to that neck. This was a totally wasteful purchase.
