This guitar is magnificent. It weighs a ton, think "anchor for USS Constellation," but it has a singing tone. And it just looks so COOL.I'm primarily a "Fender guy" because I prefer the brighter and slightly thinner sound, but I love the look of a Les Paul. This sunburst beauty with these mini buckers fed into a cranked DSL... It's the best of both worlds. I'm a huge Thin Lizzy* fan so perhaps I'm not the most objective person here, but it totally rocks. (*The LP Deluxe was the primary axe for Robbo and Scott on their five studio LPs together. If that isn't endorsement enough, well...)The guitar itself had no QC issues and only required a slight lowering of the bridge to meet my needs. Cosmetically, the sunburst wasn't too red - the blend into the yellow was nicely done. Whoever sprayed the finish had a good touch. The grain of the maple cap has a nice horizontal wave on the upper bout that only adds to the overall beauty. (I've noticed that zZounds no longer carries the cherry sunburst model and Gibson's website says there is limited stock on hand. Are they discontinuing it? Bad idea, guys.)Speaking of zZounds... I regularly check their 'Scratch and Dent' column because you can find some crazy-good deals there. About six weeks ago I was browsing and saw this model as a 'scratch and dent.' I rationalized the purchase by calling it my birthday present. (You only turn 60 once, right?) All told, the total price ended up being -33% of what it'd have cost 'new.' That made it "affordable." I checked it closely when it arrived. Other than a tiny bit of overspray on the binding where the neck joins the body and some tiny scratches on the back, it was pristine. THAT is a great deal, y'all! Being a reproduction of a 70s model Les Paul, there is no weight relief and so this dude is #HEAVY. I'm not a big guy but since my gigging days are over and I'm on the sofa now, the weight isn't a concern. In closing if you're wanting that classic Les Paul roar as heard on Zep IV or early Montrose, this isn't your guitar. But, it is the perfect synthesis of 'Fender bright' and 'Les Paul sustain' for those wanting something a little bit different.Yes, I heartily recommend this model.

I'm not gonna lie and say I wasn't nervous buying a Gibson without seeing it first but this worked out. I don't know if they are finally starting to do a better job with QC or I just got lucky but this guitar is freaking perfect. No visible flaws and plays like a dream right out of the box. I've been playing a wine red LP for about 20 years and always wanted a deluxe so when this became available it was enough to push me over the edge and take a chance on it, I'm glad I did.

I've been a fan and owned a few Deluxe over the years. When I saw this online I had to get it. First of all, zZounds shipped it from their location in NJ to PA in one day! No wait. The guitar is absolutely gorgeous. The Gold Top looks great. Mine looks like it has a one piece mahogany body with a great grain on both the body and neck. The overall weight is about 9lbs in my estimation and balances well. The neck is very comfortable and it is not exactly thin. It's more like a fat "C" shape, but not as fat as my 58RI. The pickups really shine. I always loved mini-humbuckers & they are nice and bright almost like a thicker Strat or Tele bridge tone. The neck pickup sounds big and bright. I'm glad Gibson is producing these again & zZounds really delivered.

This guitar is really nice. It is my first Gibson and the pickups are probably my favorite. It is a little heavier, but I have one Tele that is heavier. I never knew how comfortable these were. The neck is not skinny and not too fat. The guitar had no damage. I did get a set up. I put 10's on it. The G string did go out of tune a little, but I am in Mississippi, so all of my guitars go out of tune a little. I now want a 60's Standard.

Fantastic guitar through and through. A real beauty. The neck is one of the most comfortable I've played on a Les Paul, and the weight is perfect (it feels slightly lighter than my 50s Goldtop Standard). Pickups are exceptional; they are pretty bright and luscious and allow for all kinds of tonal options. Just the perfect guitar to have in your arsenal; made to be played and played and played. I commend Gibson for getting this one right. Treat it to some good strings; Stringjoy 10s really work for me.
