Gibson ES-339 Studio Electric Guitar (with Case)
Thanks to warm '57 humbuckers, a consistent, precise Orange Drop cap, and an unmistakable double cutaway, this ES-339 sounds great and plays comfortably.

I love my SG and I love Les Pauls too. To me this guitar is the best of both worlds. Can scream like and SG and sustain as long or longer than a Les Paul. Just an all around great sounding guitar. I think it looks pretty cool stripped down and the simplified controls make it even easier to play. A great guitar to take out gigging for great tone. I find myself grabbing this guitar more often than any others.

Wow, I'm blown away by my purchase. Great guitar - I guess the Gibson/Epiphone scale-length just fits me better for one thing. I came to the es339 via a Squier Surf modified strat and then an Epiphone semi-hollow Kat axe. Once I played the Epi I knew I was never going to enjoy playing a full-sized Strat again. But.. the actual example I received had a few VERY rough frets and zZounds refunded me quickly. I bit the bullet and bought the Gibson ES339 and it is absolutely perfect! The pride of ownership thing sticks out.. you get a signed book thingy - like a passport. The fact the axe came in a case seemed 'correct' or appropriate. Hey, ever bought or seen a trumpet, sax, or violin that didn't come in a case? Nope.
I love this guitar - the sound is great, playability is 10/10. Finish is marvelous. Nuff said I think. Other than the action was perfect straight out of the box AND no loose pups or fittings - unlike the other two guitars I bought by Epiphone & Squier. Happy camper!!

"ES 339 Studio Sunburst"
This guitar arrived a week from the day I purchased it. I have always wanted one of these and here was a chance to get new one for less than half the price of the non-studio. I thought, how could binding, pick guard and one set of volume/tone controls be worth $1,600? Well, I found out why. This thing is one UGLY duckling. I lowered the bridge, tuned it up and it played like butter, as virtually all Gibson's do. But then I noticed on the lower side of the neck joint the glue was coming undone and I could see clear wood where the crack was. Had there been a pick guard I would not have noticed this crack until it broke completely. Noticing this I consider myself lucky for Zzounds was gracious and responsive in taking this back immediately. I believe I'll wait until I can afford one with binding. But for those of you who seek an "aged" guitar, this one would be an excellent candidate for after market ageing.
