overall i chose this bass because i played t-birds before.i never felt totally comfortable playing them until now...lightweight ,size is perfect, not top heavy(with my wide leather strap),fast neck and thunderous sound...why until now gibson decided to make a shortscale t-bird? smart move this bass is sick!!!
Sound
wow!!just got this bass amazing sound deep low end and high's that cut through the mix of guitars and drums of the loud rock band i play in.cool thing about this bass is since it's a short scale bass it has a tone on it's own like a thunderbird tone but then again not.plenty of lows, highs and a nice midrange thump
Features
on some talk forums i read people were leaving negative feedback on this bass before actualy playing it and hearing how amazing it sounds.it's a short scale bass ya but i've always thought the thunderbird basses were a little too big and top heavy.with this short scale bass i find it to be perfect now.bass is not heavy and not small doesn't feel like i'm playing a short scale bass and no problems with the neck dropping when i let go but i have a descent leather strap not sure if it will drop on a cheap 2 1/2 strap.the neck is superfast and slides to the octave sound killer.however i wish it had better strap buttons but i can change those not a huge fan of grover tuners either but oh well.
Ease of Use
supereasy to get an amazing sound i just keep all the knobs on the bass up to 10.i may mess with the knobs more but seems to work for me best to keep them all the way up
Quality
well built thunderbird bass perfect right out of the box i still don't like those strap buttons those have to be changed.Gibson's quality control seems to be excellent no loose parts no cosmetic blemishes finish is excellent
Value
Definately worth the money
Manufacturer Support
Gibson's customer service was great when i called about the serial number very helpful in explaining how to read it.actually amazed that someone picked up the phone
The Wow Factor
sexy little bird i think i'll make it my main #1 bass fender jazz #2

Sound
I just bought the Gibson Thunderbird Short Scale Bass. It is what I have been looking for. I have the long scale as well. My fingers are short and it is easier to play. Has the same great pick ups, tuners, and bridge. The sound is so close to the long scale, most people could not hear the difference. I also have the SG Short Scale. The neck I think is the same, but it has it's own sound. The short scale well be the one I like best when I play.
