So this review is coming from someone who has a bedroom studio setup with custom acoustic paneling. I replaced my M- Audio Bx5s with these. My M Audio monitors suffered in the Mids and had good lows and nice highs...so I knew whatever I upgraded to was going to be better. It was between the Focal Alpha 50s, the Yamaha HS8 (which are wayyyy to big and for my setup) Adam Audio A5X, or Presonus Eris 44. I did alot of research and reached out to my industry professional connections....After many trips to Guitar Center and comparing prices and reviews I went with these.I am BLOWN away. I can hear EVERYTHING and nothing gets muddy or is exaggerated I haven't even tuned them to my room I must have them at 0 DB and Im using my Audio Interface to adjust volume. I was surprised at their ability to get such a deep bass frequency response without sounding like trash. The mids are like heaven I swear. My primary use of these is for tracking demos and templates at home and for referencing my mixes and masters from a professional studio. And these are the truth.

I have been mixing using a pair of inexpensive 5" JBL's along with my Avantone Mix cube style headphones (big...and awesome!),and while those JBL's are amazing at their price-point,it was time to upgrade. I wanted a pair of 5"monitors w/front-firing low end ports to go along with those rear-firing JBL's I already have. The Alpha's really deliver on all levels....price,sound,build,etc. Left both at 0db. Mid range is smooth and silky,no harshness anywhere, and that low end is tight and punchy. I don't need a sub for anything but the deepest of low end in electronica style music,although you will be blown away by how much low end a 5" speaker can deliver. A lot! Took about 2 hours of break in time,then these started to come alive. I spent WAAAAY too much time listening to old mixes and and hating on them but... that was the point; I needed to know!Focal delivered and the zZounds payment plan made it all happen,plus 2 day delivery. Heck yeah!

The Alpha 50's really are exceptional monitors,too good to pass on 'em at these prices. We use them with our Antelope Audio Synergy Discrete 4 interfaces, an excellent combination for the $. They sound so darn good,definitely recommend them. I have never heard anyone diss Focal monitors,but always hear good things,so there you go. zZounds had the best price w/2-day delivery,so you know who to order from!
