Being able to choose the one I wanted from the stock they share with other retailers was pretty slick. I personally feel the MM signature bass looks best in sunburst- helps the pick guard blend in to the body. My bass weighed in at 8 lbs 4 ozs, nice and lite. I chose my bass as best I could for best all around axe, based on superficial specs (it's mail order); neck specs, weight, wood grain, color quality etc.. Thank God the build quality and sound were as good as they were, especially the solid build on this beast. Who likes to return stuff. I'm not into the MM sound, but love this bass, so I did change the strings to thicker La Bella flat wounds and will change the pickups to something with more of a 60s sound, but this bass provides the perfect canvas for tweaking. This bass is geared for slapping, so the clarity does shine through. I know some people change the preamp, but I think I'm satisfied with it so far, we'll see. I usually stay away from signature equipment, but I dig this one for sure. When buying equipment, know what you like then go for it...
