A serious guitarist should be able to set up their gear. It's not that tough and the manual ingeniously steps you through the process. A tuner, a screwdriver, and an Allen wrench are all you need. The neck is the best I've ever played. It's unfinished and so fast. The guitar comes with the action set a little high but even with raised strings, it's still incredibly easy to play. The pickups are great. From screaming distortion to super clean you can get any tone you want.My other guitar is a Gibson Les Paul Studio and i gotta say i now prefer the EVH.

Ive had this guitar a few months before writing my review. Out of the box it needed a little set up. Not bad, and I had to learn to use a d tuna. The d tuna took a bit to master , for me anyway . The pickups are great . They are mounted to the body , so to get the sound I wanted I had to stagger a few pole pieces. Really easy guitar to play , actually stays in tune really really well. I live in the south and the humidity does hell on guitar necks . This one stays pretty true . I get a great rock sound .. and a super duper jazz sound . Great guitar .

Just received this guitar today and out of the box it needed a setup. The action was too high and the bridge was floating. Nothing major really, but it did however effect the way it played out of the box. For a guitar at this price point with similar or better features I would give the edge to the Ibanez Genesis Series or even a higher end Korean made Schecter. The sound however, is tight and articulate with sustain for days! No complaints there. The quality of the paint, wood, hardware, and build of the guitar is top notch as well too. I have an affinity for this style of guitar because I had a flourescent green Kramer as my first guitar. So I've been waiting years for guitar companies to start manufacturing Eighties style guitars again. Does it hold up to a USA Jackson or Ibanez Prestige? No, but it sounds great and will soon play great after a necessary setup is done. This is easily a professional quality guitar, just don't expect to be blown away by the factory setup out of the box.**Disclaimer** Since this is a new release guitar, please keep in mind that possibly the factory setup is just a rogue experience and maybe I'm the rare case of recieving this guitar setup this way.
