I have wanted this guitar since I saw Metallica on the Black Album tour. I was a bit concerned because it is an LTD instead of the 5K ESP but there were a few things that convinced me. I am a sucker for ebony fretboards. Add that to the scalloped frets and the Bone Breaker pickups and I was sold. It is true that many people dislike active pickups. I have owned an 81, 85, S and SA. But here, it is clear that every effort was made these sound as good as possible. The bridge is ceramic and the neck is Aalnico. So there are lots of great sounds to be had. The neck is incredible to play on. I can’t explain how great it is adequately. I can’t see how you could make in better. I prefer unfinished necks, but there was no stickiness here. And the frets are well done. There just isn’t anything I could find that could be improved upon. And I was expecting to just trash this guitar verbally as a “starter” guitar. I was very wrong there.
